Prosport Gauges of St. Pete Florida ROCKS!

Bought this electronic boost guage from a NAM member but he didnt have directions incl with sale. Attachment 36499 Many were helpful here with some directions from another distributor as FASTMINI refused to help with another set of install wiring directions because I was not the original seller......food for thought folks.

But, I ended up just calling Prosport Guages in St. Petersburg FL. I ened up being helped not by one, but by TWO salepersons there, whom ended up sending me a JPG diagram of the wiring directions. (Stuck to dash with 3M.)

Little-H, asked that I post pics of the day and night illumination of the guage once installed.

During day off, guage is blackend out, when ignition is turned on the guage face illuminates to hyper white. At night, when parking/headlights are on, it turns orange just like the OEM guages on dash....pretty cool.

Turns out at high speed upshifts, I run up to 15-16 PSI.

Attachment 36497

I also spray painted the back of the guage chrome and added a black/chrome intercooler "S" from Astetic Creations.....

Euro, that looks so cool. Would adding this gauge be too hard for someone VERY new to cars or working on cars? I am going to attempt to install a CAI this weekend. It will be the first thing I have attempted. I really want a boost gauge. Thanks in advance.

I'd help ya out

I would help you install it if you were near by. Do you know anyone in your area with some auto wiring experience ?

See, you need to tap into some factory wiring and stuff, and I had all the tools, crimpers, wire tester and good wiring connectors, not that crap radio shack sell either.

It really would not be a good first mod to tackle alone given your prevously stated experience.

Just thought I would add that I also had a great experience with them and am running five of their premium gauges.

electronic huh? very nicetouch....you gotta power the boost sensor? and what just stick it in the tee where you'd normally run the vacuum line?

I remember reading a while back that the overall quality of the gauges can be a little off. Something about the faceplate being out of shape and allowing light to pass by....any thoughts on that. I was leaning more towards STRI's but if that was just a rumor than its nice to have other options.

All the gauges and sensors just daisy chain off of one another. You hook up power and ground and lighting control to the first gauge and then just plug in the wires that they give you into the back of the rest of the gauges down the line (super simple). The senders also just have a wire with a plug that you stick in the back of your gauge and then the sender is powered off of that initial power connection to your first gauge. I have never had any issues with the prosport gauges, no warped face or light coming out where it shouldn't. For the price and quality you can't beat them, plus they match the stock gauges perfectly (IMHO). Hope that helps.

oh ok kewl daisy chain like the DEFI's. Thanks alot With all the gauges you are running why didn't you consider putting one of those Craven pods that allows you to double up two 52mm on each side of the tach? Or do you prefer them up on the a-pillar and dash like that?

Initially I moved the factory tachometer up to the bottom of the A pillar and had two of my guages in place where the tach originally was. I then realized that for me it was easier to glance to the A pillar for the guages and digital tach/shiftlight so I moved everything back to how it is in the photo. When I first got my Cooper I was going to go the Craven route but to save money and to get things exactly where I wanted them I decided to build my own mounts and pods. I tend to build almost everything myself that I have put on the car now that I think about it

oh that's kewl man...custom making stuff is always more rewarding than just bolting something on. I can understand why you decided to do that to save some money as I was pricing out some gauges and then adding the craven stuff to it adds another 150 to 200 in additional parts needed to mount.

No issues with guage lighting at all. No issues with guage faces either. Not sure where that came from but totally bogus info.

Here are pics of my Boost Guage during day time and night time...

Night it has the OEM color of the rest of my dash.......

And you can't beat the price for an electronic guage either. I painted the back of it with chrome paint and added an Aesthetic Creations "S" decal ....

I knew I wasn't crazy....

It's been a few days but I've been busy and haven't really had much time to find it but i just wanted to post this to back my credibility. I'm not the kind of person to just run my mouth about nonsense....check my posts and you'll see. I was more just inquiring about rumors I had heard and I wanted to provide the source but wasn't able to come up with it at the time. Well I found it and I just wanted to share it with you guys so you don't think I'm just trying to bash ProSport gauges. I'm not that kind of person.

Quoted from posts #57 and #58 from New STRI Gauges

The reason for my interest in accuracy is that I may go with the fireballed turbo system where boost is a variable, and is not tied to a crank pulley. If it looks like hey, we're only running 12psi boost, lets shim the WG springs to get 18, and the gauge is reading 5psi low, well, that's a big problem. With the SC, the boost is what it is, other than spinning the SC faster you'll not be tuning it.

In the end, the ProSport setup runs about $320 with the e-pod, and the defi, $650 with pod. It may be worth it to do it once and right versus trying prosport and not turning my engine into scrap!

I think the illumination on the PS looks a little spotty compared to the STRI and defi IMO. What do you think?
and here's a picture provided in the next post

Even in the pictures provided in this thread you can kind of see how the illumination isn't even across the whole face of the gauge. It's lit up brighter in some areas than others. Not nearly as bad as those disgusting AutoMeter Pro Comp gauges that Mini sells. I guess in the end it comes down to value. Obviously these and STRI gauges aren't going to look like Defi or similar (HIGH) priced gauges but overall nice "bang for the buck"

From what I can tell of my guages, I get a sense that the uneven and spotty illumination is from the smoke tinted lens, not the backlighting....See, when the guage is off, the face is completely blacked out. Some sort of special feature of the product.

yeah I know what ya mean about the smoked lens as the STRI's have the same thing. Looks pretty cool but I can see how it could be a little difficult to see at times during the daylight hours. Either way great gauges at a great price!
