Adding a 12V plug in center armrest?

I have the center armrest with the wiring for the snap-in phone adapter. I’d rather not buy a phone-specific adapter.

Is it possible to connect the wires in the armrest to a 12 volt plug (cig lighter) and plug in the car phone charger that came with the phone?

Then, if I have to replace my phone, all I’ll need to buy is a new car charger, not another snap-in adapter.
(I understand that the snap-in adapter also has an external antenna connection, but I don’t seem to have a reception problem, even with my phone buried in my brief case.)

There is actually very little room in the armrest and i doubt you would get the cigarette lighter plug, poser adapter and phone inside the arm rest. Heck my phone is one of the smaller ones and i could not fit the phone and the cigarette lighter plug in there much less add the adapter.

If you were to have the adapter somewhere else hidden in the car then you could maybe just run the wire that plugs into the phone into the armrest.

agreed.. I think it would be hanging out the bottom, just no room for the adapter to plug into..

Yeah, that's why my plan was to hardwire in to the odd connector in there, build my own voltage regulator for the phone I wanted, and use an adapter tip from the iGo to connect my phone.

I was able to find a set of pins with power (~13VDC) from the snap-in connector, but I'm not sure how much current is safe to draw from there. I'd looked around through some of the diagrams I was able to find, but never found a pin-out for the snap-in connector.

I'm sure it's probably fused, but my fears got the best of me and all I could imagine was connecting a phone up to it and watching the Nav screen go blank

The antenna connection seems to be an MCX plug, but I haven't made it any further than that.

Actually there is more than you think. There was a thread showing an Ipod install in the armrest. The guy removed the inside bottom piece (the one that has the connector for the snap in adapters) and it looked like it nearly doubled the depth.

Hmm, searching, searching, search...there it is.

Wow- he didn't just remove the bottom piece, he pulled out the circuit board and everything!

I was amazed how much room is in there without all the electronics. I have the phone cradle in mine but it looks large in the photos.
