light models

hi

do you know the driving light type in r56?

like the terms - h4..h3...

i am planning to match the light color with the xenon...from the small light and the fog light...

i have heard that the LED light bulb will make a warning light up coz its not enough power(not 5W) and CPU thinks it's out of order...anyone heard of this issue??

If I remember right, the OEM HID Xenon color temp is 4500K, so try to match that. As far as bulbs, someone else did basically what you're wanting to do, and he used Hoen Xenonmatch bulbs- H3 for the driving lights and H8 for the fog lights. He also used Hoen Citylights for the front markers.

There's the link to the thread I got this info from (except the color temp)- just skip down to the relevant part.

Oh, and LED bulbs will produce a "bulb out" warning. If you wanted to go LED, you could wire a resistor in series (not sure of the resistance, though) with it and everything should be OK, but I'd just use the Citylights. (I'm doing what he did when I get my Cooper).

Hope this helps!

Not quite true on the resistor, it should be in parallel, not series. And it will get hot, as it is dissipating the wattage originally speced for the original lamp. The led lamp will have its own internal resistor to limit its current. One of the problems with the LED conversion is that unless they have a built-in voltage regulator chip, their life will be greatly shortened by the unregulated 12 volt car system.

Thanks for the correction. And yeah, that's why it's better to go with halogens...
