Want to upgrade the sound systems...need some suggestions

Well....

It's time to upgrade the stock sounds system. I don't have the HK system and I dont want to put any large enclosures in the car. I do want some nice sound so I was thinking about replacement speakers and maybe an amp. Would like to keep the stock head unit on my 05 MCS if it's not too bad. Is it true that the stock unit is Alpine?

What do you guys recommend? Any experiences with going this route???

Any help is much appreciated!

Step 1 - look at the navigation - audio forum; it's filled with discussions on this topic!

Step 2 - determine how much you want to invest, in $$ and in your own time. If you're not scared off by steps such as, "Remove all the seats," your $$ will go farther. On the other hand, it is nice to be able to drop off your baby with someone you trust and just say, "Do it!" (Solving the "someone you trust step is the important one, and left to the reader.)

The general pattern seems to be: speakers, speakers + amp, speakers + amp + sub, speakers + amp + sub + custom goodies.

I'm trying to figure out the same thing with my 08 MCS...

Cheers--
