extra cigarette lighter type outlet

I want to install an outlet to handle my radar detector and phone charger. I'm using the stock lighter outlet for my ipod. Anybody done this?

My MCS is in transit, so I haven't installed accessory power outlets on it yet, but will do so. On my last car I used a dual socket Radio Shack outlet, wired direct to the battery using fused 12ga wire, mounted at left of stack. Wired that way will give you MUCH more capacity than the factory power outlets -- but don't forget to fuse the line. Those additional power outlets come in handy.

I'd hardwire the detector , and get a splitter for the cellphone/ipod

I agree with bad venge, hardwire the detector. You can install your charger underneath the console, https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...53&postcount=1, and still have your lighter socket for the ipod.

I just did this to my R56 but i also ran a AUX cable to the armrest so my iPhone just stays in the armrest. I love it! After i installed it i was listening to music and my girlfriend called and the sound was running out the car speakers and i was able to just talk normal with the phone in the armrest. This was not even my purpose of the install but it works perfect!! My own handsfree setup for under 15 bucks
