Turn off the rear fog light bulb out notification

I have an '07 Cooper with a factory installed rear fog light. I just installed the MiniDoMore towing receiver which occupies the same space so the rear fog light will not be used. If I take the bulb and socket off the wiring harness I get the bulb out notification on the dash which will not clear unless I reconnect the socket and the bulb. Called the dealer and they are not sure they know how to tell the computer the light is not installed; I get nervous when they tell me "I don't know but bring it in and we'll look around until we find something" . Is there another way to tell the computer to ignore the rear fog light or is there an aftermarket programming device I can buy that will allow me to update the computer?? Failing that, does anyone have a recommendation for a dealer or service center who is competant with doing this. I am in Houston, but travel alot so I can eventually get almost anywhere.

TIA

Rear Fog Light

Hi,

I ordered that same hitch today. I had e-mailed my motoring advisor and he said to leave the light connected and tie it up somehow out of the way. That way you won't get the rear light out message.

By the way, was the hitch easy to install?

Should be a matter of re-programming to tell the car/computer that the rear fog light is not installed..

I have almost exactly the opposite problem; I don't have the rear fog light but want it installed.

If you want to sell the light and the wiring back to where ever it plugs into the wiring harness I'm interested if the price is right. Have you been able to follow the wiring back to see where it plugs in at?
