I need a new battery for my 06 MC. I don't want to spend a lot. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

I got one at O'Reilly's Thank you. There were two batteries spec'd for the MINI. One was too large and the other fit just right. Just remember that when you go in there to get the smaller one.

Thanks again!

If your gonna buy a new battery, get a Red Top Optima...roughly around $150, but well worth it! ...

You would want an Optima Red Top 34R. This is because the Mini's terminals are switched from the norm...(or you could say that we got it right and the rest are wrong ) IF you cant hunt down a 34R, you can still get a regular 34, just that you will have some manuvering to do with the wires inorder to get it to fit.

Check the threads for some info about the battery...its amazing IMO.

So a 34R is the correct optima for a Cooper Non-S? Does it fit perfectly or you need to make modifications? Anyone have pictures installed?

You do need to bend up a tab on the positive terminal, as I recall. And the clamp doesn't work perfectly but you can shim it up with some dense rubber sheet. But it's worth it in my opinion 'cause there's no better battery than the Optima. At least not in that price range.

Here's a thread for batteries that specifically fit or don't fit an R50 (first gen MINI Cooper - not S)
