Door Lock issue

I recently had my door handles painted and when I put them back on they worked fine. But when I put my door panels back in the driver side lock started acting funny. When I unlock the car it bounces 3 or 4 times and doesn't unlock. I have to open it from the inside with some handy maneuvering. Does anybody know what could cause this to happen? The dealer said that the electric system might have to be reset. Is that true. I know it isn't a hard thing to do, but I 'd rather not have to pay for the labor. Any help would be great.

Kyle

Reset the Electrical System? Wouldn't disconnecting the battery reset everything? (I'd try that?)

Sounds like my MINI after putting the new UJ door handles on. In fact if my window is down more than half way I can't get in or out of the driver's side at all.
I'm taking it in tomorrow to get the top replaced and the lock fixed so I will let you know what they find out.

Maybee what time are you going? I'll be there at 11:30 to get my rearview mirror replaced.

Suppose to drop it off when they open so like 7:30 or 8:00 AM. I'm getting a loaner because they will have it until Tuesday.

Thanks, I'll try my battery right now because it finally stopped raining. That would be great if you could find out your issue and let me know MiniMaybee.

So I got my MINI back yesterday and the SO said that there was a loose cable in the door preventing the lock from releasing when the window was down. He said a clip had released after installing the door handle and was not holding the locking cable tight.
Might be worth pulling the door panel and having a look about.
Hope that helps.

Thanks Maybee. I'll take a look at it when I paint the other door soon.

did you guys do the door handles yourselves?
if so recheck that all the cables are properly seated in the lock mechanism I left one off on my wifes car and closed the door. Had to open it from the inside and take the door apart again. If the window is down and you can't open the lock I'd wager the cable is getting tweaked somehow. Check routing.

I can open the door from the inside no problem. The problem is that it decides when it wants to work from the outside. And that is less than half the time I want to use it. Going to the shop next week hopefully and I will have them check it out.

i bet when you took the panels off, you ripped the little thing out of the locking mechanism. by "the little thing", i mean that black piece that sticks up when its unlocked, and tucks back in the door panel when you lock the doors. i ripped mine out numerous times, just get ur hand in there, and trace it to the lock and see if its loose
