yellow fog lights?

was searching aroudn but couldn't find anything really but was wondering if having yellow foglights were illegal? i know that they're alright, but i dont really want to get cited for them... i've seen some cars is300, and osme othter cars that had either a yellow tint or a yellow bulb for their foglights and was wondering if i would get cited for it....

also anyone know which one would probably be the best brand for yellow foglihts?

from what i have read, most states allow yellow foglights, they even allow yellow headlights! Its when you start getting other colors like blues, reds, etc... thats when it becomes illegal.

In CA you are fine dont worry!

I've been running yellow tinted bulbs in my fog lights since about 2 weeks after I got the car. Yellow bulbs off e-vil-bay, no worries.

Do you have a R53? I am trying to get yellow fogs, and I looked into lamin-x films, because I can't seem to find the bulb size. H-?

I thought fogs on the R53's were H7 (or maybe H11). It's been a while since I've looked. I have Nokya yellow bulbs in my Hella foglights and it does help in poor visibility situations. I never got around to replacing the bulbs in the factory fogs with yellow.

Right, I'm looking for the stock light bulb size. The posted photos won't show up anymore :( so I don't know if that's what was meant on the diagram thread.
This is what I'm looking for: the bottom most light ->

I just did some bulb upgrades in my 2005 R53:

I chose Philips X-treme Power +80 H7 bulbs for the highbeams after a great experience with the H4 version in my wife's Jeep. They are truly impressive for a legal wattage bulb... none of the blue, silver, piaa, etc horse hockey, just bright white light.

http://www.amazon.com/Philips-X-trem...6785639&sr=8-1

As an aside, when I went to pull one of the old bulbs out I noticed only 2 of the 3 spring tabs were kinda holding the bulb in... no wonder that high beam was aimed wonky.

For the highbeams:
- unscrew the ~3" diameter cover on the back of the light housing
- pull off the electrical connector
- use a small flat blade screwdriver to release the 3 spring tabs that hold the bulb in place
- - you might have to pull on the bulb while you do this so the tabs stay unclipped
- pop a new bulb in making sure the 3 spring tabs catch the edge of the flange around the base of the bulb
- - make sure you keep your fingers off the glass on the bulb
- plug in the electrical connector
- screw on the cover
- check your aim and adjust if necessary.
- - I tilted mine up a bit by unscrewing the inboard adjustment screw 1/2 turn (hex shaped plastic piece with a slot for a screw driver)

For the fogs, I chose Hella H11 Optilux XY bulbs (Extreme Yellow). My eyes are sensitive to glare, so I need all the yellow light help I can get in bad weather.

http://www.amazon.com/Hella-H7107113...6786610&sr=1-3

For the fogs:
- turn the wheels out on the side you're going to work on
- unscrew and pop out the 4 phillips head clips in the inner fender liner.
- - they look like (i) in the picture below
- - if they just spin instead of unscrew, just put a little pressure on the base with one hand while you unscrew with the other
- - once they are unscrewed about 3/8", you can pull the whole clip out.
- unsrcew one phillips head screw that's under the bumper and screws up into the fender liner
- now pull back the fender liner
- reach in and unplug the wire harness by squeezing the connector from the edges toward the wire end, and pull
- rotate the bulb counter-clockwise 1/4 turn and pull it out.
- install the new bulb and reverse the procedure

Are you talking about just the films or some bulbs as well?
Also, I'm talking about the fogs that are fit into the bumper, not the accessory lamps...

Oh , but you could buy a piece of film , and cut it to shape for the fogs.

I ran the yellow Nokya they are about $18 shipped on ebay. They are really nice and bright and have never had an issue. I also run the yellow w5w parking light by Nokya so it matches perfectly.

You're talking about the parking light, where the turn signal indicators are as well?

You can by a 4" x 8" sheet right off Laminx's website.

LaminX sells films for every OEM light on the MINI. Check out my R53. You cant really tell that the fogs are yellow because of the recess(Which made them a PITA to put on). They are not over-the-top when it comes to yellow like tinted bulbs. Here in Arkansas, the only headlight law reguarding color/tinting/etc. is that "light emitted from headlights must be yellow, yellow-white, or white". I love the Rally look that the tinted lenses gives.

Dang, you like yellow! haha, well I'm just interested in that "cool" appeal at night when they're on. Can you tell that they're yellow during the day?

Ahh, if you're looking for the lights to be really noticeably yellow, the Laminx might not be for you. My lights look yellow, but It's not something you really notice with the lights on. Except the xenons do look a little green.

Yeah, I'm looking for the lights to be yellow at night like the Lexus fog lights.. What I was hoping the film would do is not be very noticeable during the day, but look like Lexus at night, guess not..
