Electrical Mini Cooper Light Diagrams
Mini Cooper Light Diagrams
First of all, hello everyone! I just bought my first MCS this Monday and I am in love! My first order of business is to replace a few bulbs. My drivers side front parking light is burnt out so I went down to Autozone to get a replacement. Well, it turns out that A.) There was no bulb in place at all, and B.) They sold me the wrong bulb.
Ok, so I even looked myself online at the Autozone website and can't figure it out. Our car has so many lights and they are named all sorts of different names depending where you look (ie. Cornering light, parking lamp, driving light, etc.). So, I guess the best way is to just show you which one I need;

In this photo, it's the clear bulb, the smaller one, not the orange turn signal. I assumed this was called the "Parking Light" since it's what illuminates when the parking lights are on. However, Autozone's part# for "Parking Light" is; 2825. That's a no-go.
I've searched the forums and from the best I can tell, I think it's supposed to be 7506? But, according to the pictures of that bulb, the connectors don't look right.
So, perhaps there should be a diagram posted of all the stock light Part#'s for each car. I am more than happy to Photoshop some diagrams for each model (R50, R53, R54, R55, R56, R57) if anyone can help find good front/rear photos for each model.
R50, R52, R53 - Front
1. Headlight (Low Beam) - H7 or Xenon
2. Headlight (High Beam) - H7
3. Side Marker - 194
4. Parking Light - 194
5. Turn Signal - 7507
6. Fog Light - H11
7. Fender Light? - 194

R56 - Front
1. Healight (Low Beam) - H7 or Xenon
2. Headlight (High Beam) - ?
3. Turn Signal? - ?
4. Parking Light? - ?
5. Fog Light? - ?
6. Side Marker - ?

Note: Please post links to better images and I will make a diagram for each one. Thanks!

What year is your MCS? I can only answer for the R50/52/53.
2. High beam headlights are H7 just like the halogen low beam.
4. The white bulb for the front parking light is a 194.
5. Front turn signal is 7507.
3, 7. Side repeater and fender lights are also 194's.
I do know that on the new R56's the Xenon's are Bi-xenon so you only have one bulb for both and the difference is done by a moving lens or reflector.

Thanks guys! I thought I was the only one who was having trouble finding a simple diagram.:impatient
I went back to Autozone yesterday and looked through every single bulb in the isle. And yes, I finally figured out that the parking light is a 194. Autozone's Part # (2825) is wrong! This bulb does work but it's too small, and does not properly seat in the bulb holder.
My Mini is an R53 BTW. I'll update the original post with the proper Part #'s.

I opened more bulb packages than Autozone cares to allow, and the 194's were the closest bulb I could find to the stock parking lamp. The 2825 bulb was shorter, and the base is not the same. It will seat in the holder but will move side to side and up and down. I brought the bulb holder into the store and tried it out.
I went with the amber (orange) 194's for parking lights ($2.99), but I think I am going to look around online for a silver lens to avoid the fried egg look, and maybe look into something a little higher wattage to look more like a daytime driving light. I think Sylvania has a Silverstar halogen that might work. Anyone know the max wattage I should stick in the parking light? I may need to run a larger amp fuse if going with a higher watt bulb. Any issues anyone can see with this?
Also, anyone know a good source/brand for the H11 fogs? I want to change them to either A.) Xenon match, or B.) Bright Yellow.

Hmmm... now I'm looking directly on the Sylvania site and they say the parking light is a 2825 as well. I wonder if the different brands are slightly different sizes. Because I KNOW the cheap Autozone 2825 bulb was a terrible fit, while the 194 was perfect. Just try a few out, you can always return them!

The LED 194's did not fit (4 lights)
The regular 194's I didn't try, but they are not an identical match. we checked. I ended up paiting them silver instead of paying BMW 15 each
. And they look great.

For the interior, 194's are fine (not in the overhead, but puddle/ boot/ glove/ footwells all fit 194's just fine)

i was actually thinking about going with the led's for the 194 bulbs parkin lights from autolumination.com
and then to answer you question about fogs for xenon match..you can go to this website ( im buying h7 and 194 bulbs from them )
http://www.hoen-usa.com/fog.htm
and
http://www.hoen-usa.com/city2.htm
and then some people were talking about this site. (the yellow bulbs are much cheaper than the one on hoen. but then again people say hoen is very good but they also say this website is good too)
(uh..let me find the other website first. haha)

Did you mean that they were too large to fit the opening for the bulb? Some 194 LEDs are wider than a standard bulb and will not fit in all locations, but others are very compact and completely compatible. There are many designations for the same thing, and 194 is the same as euro equivalents (W5W, T10, 501, etc).
By the way, the 2007 R56 Owner's Manual lists bulb types for exterior lights (the manuals for earlier years do not).

I have the 4-led 194 equivelant from Jamstrait (they work great in that application BTW) in my side repeaters, and they fit just fine. I don't know about the parking lights though. I just changed mine out for the angel eyes units from mossmini.com. The bulbs that came out look like clear 194's.

there's the other site for the yellow fog bulbs.

I've learned that the 2825 is the same as a 194 or a W5W. I would use the 194 as it has been a better fit in my experience.
If anyone is interested, I can update the diagrams at the top of the post with the correct info we have managed to gather here. Please post the '06-Present info if you would like those diagrams updated as well. Also, if anyone has better photos, I can update that as well.
