Add-A-Circuit Alternative

Has anyone used the Power Take Off from New Ministuff?

http://www.newministuff.com/new/shop...uctshow&id=472

It seems like a good alternative to using an add-a-circuit. More expensive but a cleaner option.

based on the description sounds just like the $2 part I passed up at wal-mart, because it seemed more prone to failure and more tack than the add-a-fuse

I think I'm reading it differently. I thought it is plug in wire harness that you use below the cig lighter, hidden under the car's panels. A sort of "Y" that gives you one of the options they mention at one end of the "Y" and a plug to connect back into the base of the stock cig lighter outlet. Allowing you to get power directly from the wire harness that feeds the cig lighter, without splicing any wires.

But maybe I'm misinterpreting it. I sent them an email to find out.

Yeah, the way I was reading sounded like the splicing was involved.

I thought that too until I read this part.

Add extras without spliceing the cars wires

That's why I was thinking it has the same plugs as the factory harness. We'll see what they say about it when I get a reply.

I heard back from New Mini Stuff about this product. It doesn't require splicing and plugs in behind the cig lighter.

It looks like a good idea. I am adding XM skyfi2 and a Valentine1. For the XM install this look like the ticket. Sinse the base of the center stack is easy access. As for the Valentine1, there is another thread showing how to tap into the overhead power behind the rearview mirror. I would like to hear someones experience with this.

I wired my V1 with an add-a-circuit. I used the cig lighter fuse. It restricts the fuse box cover a little due to the cig lighter fuse location. I may switch to New Mini Stuff harness instead.

I have not looked it up again, but in another thread a step by step how to was done to show using the sunroof hot wire in the overhead. It looks like an interesting possibility since the V1 is mounted high anyway. Just a thought.

I don't remember reading where that hot wire in the overhead area turned on/off with the ignition. One person said it turned on when they unlocked the car.

That and I didn't want to splice any of the factory wiring. Getting the wire down the a-pillar was a 5 minute job.

That's true. I do already have the add-a-fuse. Prior to V1 install in about 2 weeks I will read the threads again and deside. thanks for the input

I wired my V1 into the overhead console, and yes it does turn on when I unlock the car and yes it does stay powered for 20 minutes or so after exiting the car. It was really a snap to do and I also took the opportunity to move the mike for my bluetooth at the same time. End result... the V1 is ready to go when I am and it works great.
