Electrical Air Horn installation
Air Horn installation
I purchased an Italian air horn from Griot's Garage. I would like to use it instead of the OEM horn. I have the Berkely repair manual but there are no references to the horn. I would like to know the following:
1. Location of horn, and how to remove it.
2. I think I can, and according to air horn instructions I can use OEM wiring. I would like confirmation that it is so.
Thanks guys, any help would be appreciated.

Maybe I can help a little..
The factory horns are located behind the turn signals - one on each side. To remove the horn body, you will need to remove the front bumper cover to access.. But if you want to just want to tap into the wiring - you can access that through the "hand hole" behind the turn signals when the bonnet is open.
As for using the factory wiring for powering the air horn, I decided not to do that. I read somewhere on here about those that have tried that ended up blowing fuses too often because the air motor pulls more current than the factory setup... So I wired in a relay to switch off the horn wiring but was powered on it own fused line... Plus I added my air horn sound to the factory setup... So now when I "honk" it sounds like 2 cars.. For you setup, you might not want the factory horns going with your new one..
Depending on the size of the air motor & horns you might be able to squeeze that in that little space behind the turn signals. But I ended up mounting mine near the DSC box (horn & motor).. You cant really see it - but you can really hear it ..
Hope that helps,

I am glad to find this thread! I also have been eyeing the Griots horn and would also like to have a classic air horn rather than the OEM unit. Please tell us how the install goes and how it sounds. I am looking for that classic two note tone found on Ferrari's, Old Alfa's, etc.- come to think of it most old Brittish cars had that same tone as well.
I refurbed an air horn off of a 2-ton military truck... I'm planning to power it off of a paintball CO2 canister with a solenoid remote. Where are you guys finding space to mount the horns? My only hope so far is to go to a single-sided exhaust system and mount the horn where the muffler was before.
I'm really glad to hear all the interest in my post...I will install and come back with a repost to let everyone know how it was done...I'm really tired of sounding like a Buick...nuf said?

EDM Thanks, mine are a lot smaller than yours so I could mount in same place. Compressor and Horns one unit and have mount screws...the unit is around 4 1/2" X 2 1/2" X1 3/4" so should not be a problem...where did you tap into the original horn wiring?
See the red and black wires up against the strut tower? thats them, i wrapped them into the bunch of wires that goes from the horn, through the bay (under the motor mount) then branched them off that into where the compressor is.
This can also be done alot cleaner, by running the wires through that black dust cover.
Let me know how it goes!
