Retrofit PDC?

while we are on the topic of retrofitting how feasable would it be to retrofit the PDC including the hookups to the NAV?
Thanks

I have seen a retrofit which goes on either side of the lic plate. Warning is audible as well.

I hope this helps.

I'm interested in this as well. Clearly this is an old thread, just curious if anyone has done it.

That seems to indicate that the "PDC Install Kit" should be able to be obtained somehow. My other thought was to see if I could get a PDC kit from a salvage yard mini and retrofit it.

Also - anyone know if the PDC hooks into the IBus? I am considering doing a CarPC setup and it would be great to get the info off of the IBus and end up with similar visuals to what you get if I had the NAV option.

Thanks

It hooks into the CAN bus. IBus was in the 1st gen MINI; R56 uses CAN and MOST busses (some of it is fiber optic).

A couple dealers I've emailed have said it's not possible to add it at the dealer. But that price of that kit isn't too bad. Even if you self installed it, you'd still have to take it to the dealer to have the computer reprogrammed so it knows it's there.

The problem with the kit as i see it is that it does not include the new bumper that would be required to be used to install the kit.

I believe that the sensors can not be fitted to a "non PDC" bumper. This is probably why dealers will not do it. Just to expensive once the bumper is added to the cost.

In R56, PDC sensors are not in the bumper itself as they were in the 1st gen MINI. They are in the bottom black trim (at least for non aero kit).

And that piece is easily replaceable. At delivery my Mini had a 3-4 scratch in the lower black trim. They replaced that piece so it is separate from the bumper.

Do we have a reliable/reasonable OEM parts supplier here? If there is a PDC Install kit, then it should definitely be "retrofittable".

I'll get in touch with my dealer's parts dept, but from my experience you have to be extremely lucky to get a dealer who's willing to work with DIY aficionados...

Update please

So has anyone done this on a Clubman yet? I have a clubman with Nav but no PDC coming by next week and I really want to add this. There are aftermarket systems available but I would love to be able to add OEM integrated with the screen if it is possible and not cost prohibitive.

Thanks, Kevin
