Aftermarket alarms

Do any of you use aftermarket alarms systems? If so which ones? Are there any extra features or systems that you could recommend?

Thank you much

HI. my '04 has an Audiovoxx $35 alarm from Autozone.....simple wiring, one wire, works on current draw but also has a vibration setting.

works fine...drawback is you need that second fob on your keychain, but several hundredb$$ less than the OEM so works for me

I keep finding posts saying that the OEM alarm is finally an option on the '07. When I ordered 6/29 the dealership said it was not. I read a few post that it was, so called my dealer a week later. They still say it's not. I've not called this week because my car is on the production line. I figure it's too late now.

My DH is going to check with his buddy who is an Authorized Aftermarket Accessory Installer. This guy travels around to different car lots and offers DVD systems, sun roofs, alarms, bug shields, roof racks, side steps for trucks, etc. If it goes on after the fact, this guy has it. We purchased a few items for our F150 and have been very happy with his service and items.

My MA, who always seems behind on everything, says MINUSA informed them the alarm IS available. Maybe you should call your MA and tell him, if it turns out the alarm is available and he doesn't change your order, you fully expect the dealer will install it at no additional charge over the factory price. Then maybe he will actually bother to find out....

Cheap after market alarms simply work by going off when there is a voltage draw, e.g. dome light coming on when door opens. They may ward off some kid trying to steal a CD, but not much else. The OEM alarm is expensive, as are most factory options. But, it doesn't require another fob. It is integrated into the LEDs on the top of the tach. It has interior motion sensors, so it protects the car even if you have windows, sunroof open. It is warranted by MINI as long as the car is. And I want one, dammit.

Ditto

Anything to protect my baby. Any idea if/how much insurance costs may go down if it is installed?

My insurance agent told me they (State Farm) don't discount for car alarms anymore.

My insurance won't go down any because I already get the discount for the engine immobilizer.
