Gauges - electrical or mechanical?

OK, I'm putting my plans together to add a few gauges to my MCS...Vac/Boost, Oil Pressure and Water Temp. What type of guage should I go with, electrical or mechanical?

At first look, I've been leaning towards the mechanical b/c they're less expensive. Keep in mind that I don't track my car, just want some more for info about how it's running and a little bling. I would also prefer something that's not going to be too difficult to install.

Thanks.

You definitely want the Mech. boost gauge. I went with the electrical oil pressure gauge because I didn't want to hassle with routing copper tubing and bringing the oil into the interior. Water I think is always electrical, I don't have one though.

Like chuckt stated, mechanical boost and electrical oil pressure.
You will probably also want to go with an electric water temp gauge as well. There are mechanical ones, but the sender is fixed and is one piece with the tubing to the gauge. You will have a very hard time getting that through the firewall grommet, if it will go at all. With electrical gauges, all you have to do is run wires.

Mechanical gauges have the benefits of a full 270 degree sweep and low cost. Auto Meter makes 270 degree electrical gauges. They are quite expensive, but they are very accurate and are also easy to install like any electric gauge. I have them in my car.

Yes, I just checked some prices and the full sweep electrical gauges ARE expensive. Is there anything wrong with the short sweep electrical gauges? They cost 1/4 to 1/3 of the price of their full sweep siblings.

I just ordered both an oil pressure and a boost gauge from prosport. They are electric 2" units with 270° sweep. Is there a problem with electrical boost? It seemed to me to be easier to get a wires though than to snake tubing. (I have also experienced the consequences of a ruptued line on a mechanical OP gauge! Ick!)

Would and electical boost gauge be less accurate than a mechanical?
These gauges are back with a year warranty are costing less than $100 for both of them.

They are yet ship....any comments?

AIM Dashes. Four wires and you have all info you need.
Not to mention data memory.

What manufacturer is that and how does it hook up? Nevermind. Found it! $1000 is a tad much for me.

And here I thought I was the master of overkill with a G2X setup.

I am in the process of ordering a electric oil pressure gauge and was wondering do I need an adapter for sending unit? I will be purchasing a auto meter 2 5/8" gauge..

The AM sending units are 1/8NPT. OEM unit is 3/8NPT. It will take an tee and some adaptors. I think I used a female 3/8 tee, 3/8 coupler? (male-male), and a 1/8F-3/8M adaptor. You would be better off with the premade unit that Helix & others sell, but they are pricey.
