No power to EITHER 12v outlet! FOUND THE BAD FUSE!

I've had Schultze since 01/13/07...never needed to use the 12v outlets until today...when I wanted to use the power inverter with my video camera during the GWR Attempt in Virginia Beach.

No power to the front 12v outlet.

No power to the boot 12v outlet.

Thought maybe the problem was with the inverter itself so I tested it in the Camry and it worked perfectly!

Checked the fuse box & all fuses tested just fine.

Where else should I look?

Has this happened to anyone else?

Thanks!

I've a case where something wouldn't get power, but it just turned out to be that the plug fitted tightly and it was hard to push in far enough to make contact. Does the cigarette lighter heat up when you push down the button?

No, not even after leaving it pushed in for several minutes with the engine running. I had to pull the lighter out and the coils were cold.

The only time I had a problem it was the fuse.

Where is the fuse located? I checked all the fuses in the fuse box under the bonnet...not the square ones, though.

I had the same question when trying to use an electric bicycle air pump from the boot outlet. It turned out that I had to have the ignition turned on for the outlet to work.

The engine doesn't need to be running, but my key fob had to be in the ignition, and the Start button pressed (without clutch depressed).

Both outlets came to life. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip, but the outlets are powerless--with the engine running as well as with the ignition at the second position.

There is also a relay in the footwell fusebox that controls power to the outlets. Make sure none are dislodged. It is one of the large square relays (I dont have my service notes with me), not the small rectangular black ones. For a quick check of the relay, swap it with another one in the same panel. If things begin working, you've found the bad one.

Driver or passenger side...how do I access it?

Found the fuse box in the driver footwell...

F32 = Cigarette lighter (15amp)

Needs to be replaced...'course I forgot to put the replacement fuse kit IN the car this morning!

Thankfully MINI put extra fuses inside the fuse box!

All fixed!

I would have been surprised if a relay went and the fuse was still good. I have heard of relays becoming dislodged in their sockets, but that would have to be from them not being plugged in tightly from the factory - those things take a lot of pull to remove.

So, now that your power works, does this mean we all have to drive back down so that we can re-run it with you taping it?
