There is a newer thread on it...TimL had it done I think...you need a toggle panel... And some reprogramming at the dealer, and mybe a lens or you may even have to run a wire...depends on the build date on your car...it can get $$ fast depending if you car is prewired or not.

Thanks Zippy... From what I understand, pre-2005 MCSs had the fogs built in to the upper portion of the tail lights. All we need is the toggle panel (which doesn't seem to have an accurate part number on REALOEM) and maybe a reprogram at the dealer (though I wonder if something can be done through the speedometer options)...
I may just splice those bulbs into the taillights so that they light up when my lights are on, but I wouldn't mind adding rear fogs. It seems like such a dumb waste for Mini to put these light bulbs in all of these cars for them never to be used.

TimL has an 06 s I think...he put it down in the bumper knockout where you have the back-up light. It is a neat mod...the 6 toggles can be found used...they are kinda $$$ new.
If you go way back in the threads, if I remember right, there was actually a petition to get mini to activate the rear fogs...for quite sometime, they refused, since the DOT in the US does not specfically allow their use. In the end mini said, ok, and you could get the dealer to activate the feature. It cannot be done by the speedo.

Thanks Zippy for the info about the programming... I didn't research that far yet. - and Eric - apparently that is the EURO part number. The US part number ends in 2.
Classic Mini quoted me $161 shipped... That's a bit pricey. I thought I read on here people got the part for $60-$70 shipped. Not worth $160 imho. I think I might go the splice in route...

The reprogramming is usually about 1hr labor at the dealer....you might be able to get a deal, but that doubles the cost. TimL has a thread on it at massmotoringclub.com....on his car, beaing an 06, the fogs were installed in the rear bumper, where you backup light is...but the switch panel, and programming is the same.
One tip...if you decide to jumper, use a diaode, or isolate that newly activated bulb from the oem wire that would power the harness...a few folks that just jumpered the extra bulb on some of the cars as an extra brakelight ( yet another mod depending on the year and and taillight configration) had problems with bodycontrol module (BCM) dammage...for a bit people just used stright jumpers, but then kits came out to remove the possibility of hurting thr bcm by back feeding current to it.

Zippy's got my story pretty much right, tho I have an '05 not and '06.
I found a toggle panel here on the NAM marketplace for ~$50 (IIRC); they're much more expensive new from a dealer. (See part # in PDF link below.)
Judging from this PDF, MINI switched the location of the foglights from the taillight cluster to the bumper as of 7/04:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...t_Retrofit.pdf
If your SOP is between 7/04 and 11/04, you will need to run the wiring; SOP 11/04+ the wiring is already in place.
I swapped my toggle panel with no problem, following directions found here on NAM.
I did have to bring MINIKINS down to the dealer (INSKIP in Warwick, RI), who quoted me an hour's labor for the programming. They'd never done a rear foglight activation before, so it actually took them two attemps for it to "take". I was there for a couple of hours, all told, but INSKIP was true to their quote.
I'm very happy to have added the rear fogs; added peace of mind for driving admist the nitwits out there....
