I have found unichip piggyback ecu's for various cars on the internet. My question is, if I have it reprogrammed for the mini will it work? Do they come with different connectors or universal connections?

The chip itself has 2 different versions, GP(old) and Q(new), the MINI uses the Q. Any Q chip can be programmed for the MINI, but you will need the harness to plug it in, and I don't think you will find it seperatly. Most of the units on E-bay will not be supported by Unichip if you have a problem.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I will call unichip and see if they will sell the harness by itself.

Run Forest Run! I went this route and regretted it to a rather high $ trying to get the best out of the situation. I have a harness and no UseLessChip now if you are interested. REALLY beware getting service from UseLessChip on your dime. Last dyno run w/o chip. 186 - w / chip 188 much better ways to spend 1k in parts and custom tunes and dyno time. Our ECUs are smart little buggers, they "learn" everything you put into the piggyback, and then it reaches a point where it no longer has an effect. Not to mention throwing codes every 1 - 1.5 days. If you opt to go this route, I also have a code reader I had to buy but have not had a need for other than resetting the oil service, and reading codes for others with the UseLessChip still on theirs.

Getting the LDG tune on the dyno next Thurs for 25% of what I lost already... save yourself some cash.

Tim

Now for the "Mine has been wonderful for 100k mi posts"

Neither did mine, until I let a second tuner get hold of it. The first tuner produced an awesome tune. Never a code.

The second guy apparently didn't really understand the long and short term fuel mapping. Or something. Anyway, he's no longer an authorized Unichip tuner.
