Ever since I installed HR springs, my xenon headlights seem to aim a little low. They simply don't illuminate the road surface far enough down the road. It is quite disconcerning. Has the lowering of my car affected the aim, and is it possible to re-aim the self leveling xenons? Anyone else have this problem?

When I picked up my MINI, I didn't like how the Xenons point so low. You can see EVERYTHING below eye level and nothing at or above it at night. SO I raised them a bit. It took a few tries over a few days to get it just right. But now I can see great and no one has yet to high-beam me over the last 12k miles or so.

It's really easy to do. Open the bonnet and look at the Xenons from underneath the bonnet. You'll see two screws on each side. One is for left-right adjustment (marked L <>R - the two letters with arrows telling you which way to turn to get the adjustment you want) and U<>D (same as above). Just trun the screw with a flathead screwdriver towards the direction (in this case up - 'U') until they are at the right level. I checked it by parking in my driveway and aiming the Xenons at the garage door and doing this during a time a day where you have some shade so I could see the lights well but still see what I was doing.

This was the first "modification" I did to my MINI! Have fun!

David, that's weird because the H&Rs actually lower the car more in the rear than they do in the front. So the headlights should be pointing higher. Now this whole self-leveling thing could be causing your problem but the sensors are on the suspension and should "read" the front/rear pitch of the car. I know I have not helped but may have started a debate. My car with the H-Sports does not have the problem you describe.

I adjusted the lights as Grestgro described above. If my wife ever lets the MINI cool down, I will go out and check it at night. I used tape on the garage door to mark the levels so I could have a reference while adjusting.

What does the alignment of your headlights have to do with performance modifications?

It is a problem that was caused by a performance modification (new springs).

I realize that it was posted due to a mod. The question of adjusting the headlights doesn't seem like a performance mod question. That's all.

Headlight adjustments have been discussed in Beneath the Bonnett and MINI Talk.

Cheers.

I don't know if a disagreement over where this question is posted is really worth taking up space and time. I am sorry if I chose a forum that some people feel was not appropriate for this question.

Seems appropriate to me. If someone is going to change springs, I think that they
would want to know that there might be a light issue.
