2% cank pulley

Ok I have read over and over through the posts and cannot tell if this is a good mod or not. I have an Alta 15% SC pulley, Alta exhaust, Dinan T.B.. stage 5 software, Dinan CAI, Detroit Tuned B.V., NGK IX plugs and a few others. Does a 2% crank help or hurt? What are the pros and cons of doing so? You all are the best so thank you in advance for your help. Jeff

P.S. I have a lot of susp. upgrades I just did not list due to where this post is. I am looking for a little more bang for my buck. I am doing a M7 DIFC and a header in the next few weeks but still looking for more. Thank you again.

The 2% will give you a bit more boost (spinning the SC faster), and a bit more responsiveness (it does away with the heavy harmonic balancer so the crank has less weight to spin up and down.)

The only risk I know of is that of increased vibration in the drivetrain due to the lack of the harmonic balancer. That has caused catastrophic failure of the oil pump in OTHER CARS (i.e. Miata, esp. high HP cars), but that hasn't been a (edit: widely) reported issue in the MINI thus far.

I had the Alta 2% installed a few weeks ago and have had the 15% SC pulley for over a year. I have noticed a slight harmonic vibration at certain speeds (always at 80 mph). It is more of a harmonic tune than a vibration. I'd also agree with the slightly increased responsiveness.

Good work on the wheels then!

I'm not going to go for a light massed crank pulley as I've got harmonic noise at highway speed and above.(likely post crash induced) I think it may be the driver side inner CV joint or the control arm bushing. I am considering a 2005/2006 crank pulley though as they are a tad lighter than my early style pulley. Best of luck with whatever you do jeffc2!

Thank you all for your help thus far. I am worried about reliability and the harmonic balance so any more input I would love
