Drivetrain Which short shift kit to get? Any feedback?
IMO, for decreased throw "without" lowering the shift **** (increasing reach), Rogue and Helix are your only choices for now...
The concept for both are identical...add length to bottom of shaft with an extension...does not need the shift mechanism to be replaced...I prefer Rogue's 3 capture studs...

Does anyone know why "Outmotoring" list the B&M kit for the later 05/06's as discontinued? Was there a problem with the kit?
Thanks. Looking at options and like the fact that it comes with a new dust cover.

If you have a stock JCW exhaust on your car you may not have enough clearance to utilize the new dust cover because of the size of the cat. The clearance there is very minimal.

Thanks Steve, I also thought about that.
I love my CravenSpeed short shifter. It reduces the stick length and ratio for a shorter throw. It can be adjusted back to stock height with the knurl ****.
I added a plastic extension to the dust cover (homemade) that did not interfere with the stock Clubman exhaust or heat shield.
I also got the Cravenspeed trim ring and ditched the boot.
I do leave it at the shortest allways now that I have had it a while.

Ok, so the cravenspeed (what a name) is the only one that lets you decrease throw AND keep the stock height? And you can use your factory boot over it AND it's blacK? Now, what about the bushings? It sounds like the B&W has best setup for shift accuracy.... or, can you just swap out the bushings on the factory shifter to get more definition (so to speak) with your shifts?
There is no B&M kit for R55, or R56. I have heard some say the bushings cause some slop and others say it is built into the transmission itself. There is probably some contribution in the lever, the cables, and the transmission. It seems to me the cables would be the biggest factor, I noticed there is a lot of side motion allowed so that they can adjust to the different positions of the lever end (ball joint). A stiffer cable would tighten that up but require more effort to shift. Here is a thread with a comment about the bushings for the older B&M kits:

CapWKidd- As you shorten the throw on the CravenSpeed shifter, you also shorten the height too. At the lowest/shortest setting it is 1 inch lower than the stock shifter.

The CravenSpeed shift well cover will work with any shifter.

Mine is an '04, and I got the B&M kit for myself. I **love** it, and it feels strange to drive a Mini that doesn't have the short shift installed. I've driven a Mini with the later version of the B&M, and honestly didn't enjoy the experience nearly as much. Not sure what all was different, but something certainly seemed to be.
I know Kellen has a great reputation, and the best damn looking shift well covers out there...I don't think you could go wrong with the Craven!
Plus, though it isn't TERRIBLY time intensive, it is a fun mod to do yourself if you're patient enough, and just take your time.
