B&M 45131 Short Shift Kit

Any feedback on this? Pros/Cons? Got one but have not installed yet. Is it worth the time? Can't find any previous posts.

I like mine - Best MOD for the buck.

I put mine in back in June. Best bang for the buck. Puchased off ebay new from store on a $35.00 bid......

Nice thing about it is that the lower dust cover fits when installed, unlike many other aftermarket SSK's.

There are no Cons I have with this product.

I really liked my Alta SSK, personally.

PS - the adjustability (<- is that a word?) is really nice.

i think the advantage of the b&m is the metal bushings that replace the oem. i have the cravenspeed, which is also adjustable - for newbies that translates into 2 things - 1) you can adjust the height of the shift **** and that height adjustment then 2) shortens the throw between gears (ie, lower height, shorter throw). but, it uses the stock bushings, so there is still some play which means you do shorten the throw but the overall feel of the shift is still kind of sloppy. in a previous porsche i installed a schnell ssk and it replaced the oem bushings with metal and the end result was a very smooth, tight, short throw - it was orgasmic!!!!!!

my goal - find b&m or ebay knock off bushings (for an 05 - ebay seems to only sell 02-03) to retrofit in with my cravenspeed. that with a tsw engine damper and i may just drive around all day shifting gears!!!!!!

Cecil,
At first glance, I thought that was a "U" after the "S". =(

be careful when removing the lower shift cable on the bottom of the stock shifter. Mine got bound up and when i did get it off it broke the shifter cable linkage. Took the third cable from mini to replace. It was a bear but it does shift good and im glad i did install but was costly install.

+5 on the B&M. When installing the kit, make sure the shifter cables are are still attached to the clips midway up the undercarriage. Each cable has a rubber grommit that keeps the cable housing from flexing. On my MCS both were not attached - cable housing moved before the cable moved.

+6 LOVE my B&M because the stock shifter felt like it was going to break in half when i threw it into 3rd.. the B&M feels very solid to say the least and the shifter height is perfect.. i recommend getting a new shift **** because with the stock **** its very low and can be a very heavy shift, so you'll need some muscle to through it around.. i got a UUC RK3, awesome setup.

Dont want to hijack, but my '03 MCS Cables freeze up every morning, and I need to replace them with upgraded cables (better end seals?) Are these cables accessible, during the SSK install? recommend both?

There is a TSB for the freezing shift cables. Complain to your dealer and they should fix it under warranty.

Does anyone have a link to an ebay store for this at the $35 price? All I can find is the B&M45129 shift kit; which I would be okay with but I am unsure if it will fit on '04 Cooper S. Does anyone know if the 45129 kit will fit an 04' MCS?
