Drivetrain 2005 engine dampening - upper or lower?
2005 engine dampening - upper or lower?
Where do we want to control engine movement from, the engine vibration damper (next to steering rack fan) or from the transmission mount (below the air box?
I prucahsed a IE engine dampener inserts a year and just got around to installing these...they fit nothing on this car. So before I order another insert kit, I thought I might ask first.
Also, who makes a nice insert kit?

Ireland engine bushings
I too have purchased the ireland bushings, and after talking to Chad at Detroit Tuned, I discovered that we 05/06 owners only need a lower mount and a trans mount. The trans mount is located on the drivers side, right infront of the intake and the lower is on the "dog bone" which is underneth the car. There is a very good discription of the r/r proceedure on the Mini-madness site. But if you have purchased an upper mount only it won't fit the bottem as they are similar in appearence but they are very different. Hope that helps!
If your interested, i just finished designing a new upper mount for the 05/06 cars. As well as a new bottom, and tranny. I dont think these are going to be for the weak at heart tho, so be warned. I may not end up using all of them. Long story short, the minimum order amounts for all the components gives me just enough to build two complete sets (all three mount points). If your interested in buying the other set, PM me. It will probably go up for sale on NAM anyway. Talk to you later
...delrin?
I think the engine dampener is probably the most effective attachment to begin with. When this mount is removed the engine moves around quite a bit. So given this car's daily activities, I'll leave the other two alone. I do have a car with three very solid mounts...I need ear plugs
Thank you for the offer, much appreciated, as is your effort!

no problem, i appreciate your effort alot as well, youve tought me alot about alot of different things. And no, not delrin, mine is for the street as well, last year it got 16k miles, dont know about this year tho. I was going to use some delrin, but not anymore (solid aluminum in parts, but whos counting). The goal is to locate the motor WITHOUT tremdous vibration. Dont know if thats going to work tho, thats why i said they not for the weak of heart, but i might get a set built put them in, and the set up could be reasonable. Only one way to find out tho....
oh, and i dont care if the car vibrates, i wont some. The last motor i built was a high rpm long stroke v8, 4 mount point (encluding the tranny, one on each corner) with 1.25 inch rubber mounts, i cranked them down with 2 foot power bar and 2 foot ratchet until i couldnt crank no more. I love teh shake that had, the first time anyway (the second time i ran it some of the valve springs shrunk from bad heat treat, and it was only running on 5 random cylinders, that was a violent shaking... looked cool tho. and the sound on open header was unbeliveable, ecpecally in my cinderblock garage). Im aiming for less than that with the mini tho. hahah

I've tried them all - and the only one that remains on my car are the tranny inserts. The upper and lower together made the NVH unbearable in my daily driver... And, the upper alone and lower alone weren't much better. I still have them if anyone wants the upper and lowers...
They definitely work - and work very, very well. I wouldn't put them in a daily driver, though. It's the main driving force behind why we engineered our engine damper kits in the first place - you get the same performance benefits without adding the same NVH!

I used the large upper and large lower powerflex inserts on my MC, and had
good results. Skipped the small bushings and the transmission mount insert.
Less movement and only a slight increase in NVH.
Interestingly, I had a little more vibration with only the upper large insert
compared with both upper and lower large inserts in place.

The upper mount on the driver's side is a fluid filled mount - replaced already. I may play with the mount just under the airbox, but only after I try the engine dampener - connects the engine/tranny to the subframe near the steering rack fan.
