Okay, like vector625, I am looking to make the same modifications with almost the same parts.

Where would you recommend we purchase the parts, with cost being the major factor?

This topic was brought up at a seminar I was attending with David Murray (Nissan factory driver for 2007) and some Weissach techs (Porsche) over the weekend in Sebring. It helps to understand how a gearbox with synchos works. And if you do you already know why short shifters are a poor idea for a street style gearbox. Basically, by speeding up the shifting you loose the ability of the sychros to work properly. And damaged synchros can get pricey to fix.

You do not need a clutch to engage first gear in a stock box. Gently push on the lever and it will engage. Do it with a short shifter and the gear grinds. I test all the cars I drive in this manner.

Why they are bad for a track car is the above and the fact that finding the return gate, 3-4, becomes difficult and that can and does lead to missed shifts; especially in corners where your body weight is going one direction and the car is going the opposite.

So it sounds like short shifters are bad. Has anyone had bad experiences with theirs? Can this be countered by shifting slowly through the gears and only doing it quickly when "needed? Just not sure if I'll be doing real damage or not.

Alot of people have short shifters on their cars with over 100k miles on their transmissions. While It might be a problem in the long, long run, i doubt it will effect you... Hell, as fast as i shift with my stock shifter, it probably isn;t good for my transmission...

Reading what everyone else had to say, I figured somewhere around 200HP (crank) is what I'd shoot for, but that's just a rough guess. Here's what I figured I'd add:

1) Cold Air Intake (not sure which one, yet)
2) 15% pulley
3) Miltek exhaust
4) GIAC ECU
5) Short shifter (B&M)

I wanted to get some opinions on this selection. Anyway just wanted to see what people had to say.

Vector,

I have similar mods (among others). I have the Alta CAI, the 15% pulley also Alta, a Scorpion cat-back exhaust, a UNICHIP ECU, and a Cravenspeed Short shifter. I recently dynoed my car at 170 whp, which translates at a 20% loss through the drivetrain at about 205 crank hp. I think you're spot on with your assessment as to what to expect with those mods. BTW, DO IT!!!

Thats a bit optomistic... The accepted driveline loss figure is 12%...
