93 octane
I did a search and didnt really find what I was looking for. With no ECU mods, could my MINI run 93 octane fuel with no problems? What about using octane booster with 91? I have a 15% pulley, CAI and such.
Your MINI could certainly run 93 octane with no problems. Check out the Gas Recommended for MCS thread in Under the Bonnet: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=49184 The thread is a bit long and repetitious, but you will get the info you are looking for.
Regarding the 15% s/c reduction pulley, I have a 17% s/c reduction pulley and am running 91 octane (California pisswater constraints) with no problems. Be sure to run a high detergent gas. I have run Chevron gas since 1987 with no problems in any of my cars.
Stay away from Octane boosters. Some actually degrade your emission control system.

Just find a station that sells 100 octane unleaded race gas and blend it with the 91 octane gas (that is what I have to do with my modded C5).
yeah, on Long island it is called Cam2, a sunoco brand, but not EVER sold at a sunoco gas station for fear of morons thinking that A: this should go in my 91 toyota tercel, B: OMG THIS PLACE IS RIPPING ME OFF 4 DOLLARS A GALLON??!! so only independents carry it and put it like behind the building. my conjecture yes, but morons force lots of business decisions. just venting about that.
yeah 93 Shell is what I use as it is the super cleaner one. So far, not a change ever in speed or whatever from using only that from the same gas station. I will, when it gets warm out, try like 1/3 93 shell with 2/3's 100 Cam2. then i will burn some rubber and test it out for a tank.
94 used to be a standard sunoco octane. I wish it was around, it was fantastic in my v6 stick camaro (high compression in that one)

93 is the only thing I run (although I'll admit to ACCIDENTLY putting some 91 in once. On a long trip, i was sleepy..). Why would there be a prob with running higher octane gas?

mcs or mc without mods can run 95 octane with accuracy. it can run more than that but is not as noticable. anythingh lower than 95 octane causes the timing to retard! (even 95 is retarded timing as the engine optimally could use above 100 on account of its very high compression.
I used 93 Octane Mobil in my '03 MC and now have been using 93 Octane Lukoil (seems like Lukoil, a Russian company, bought up a lot of the Mobil stations in this area of NJ) and both cars run great... never used anything other than 93.... sometimes when I'm out of the area I use Hess or Shell or whatever is around, but it's always 93. I always heard that "gasoline is gasoline" and that it all comes from the same place, basically... and that it's all pretty much the same everywhere you go... is there truth to this? Doesn't gasoline have to conform to certain quality standards no matter???

The gas stations in my area, that I know of, only have up to 91 octane gas. Iv'e heard rumors of 93 at stations near the airport. I want to get ahold of some of that 100 octane gas. I'll look into it. Thanks for the warning about octane boosters, I will continue to avoid them.
Here in Richmond VA, we only have 93 octane as the premium grade. I use either Chevron, Texaco or Shell. And I try to only use 93 octane without the 10% ethanol added. The gas stations outside of the metro area have these blends of gasoline and they are cheaper too.
My manual recommends premium, but states that 87 octane is the minimum required. My MA says the same thing. I choose to go the 93 octane route, as I don't think the $120.00 is too much to keep my $28K MCS happy. However, the run-flat thing is another story!

i duno where you read 87. kinda states 91 as the gas you should use.
youll see a difference in your engine with 91-93.
gas is gas, yes. Additives are not additives. Top Tier means a certain level of detergents. I use shell because it has the most. Chevron would be the competitor to it, but NY doesnt have them. Lukoil.... i duno. could be good? be nice if it were, right next to me and its like 12 cents cheaper of every grade. and the guy has nice magazines.

Good morning Boss. I don't have my manual handy, as I'm in VA on business, and my MCS is in FL, so I can't give you the exact page number at this. I'll be home on Saturday, and I'll have the page number for you. Heck, I'll even scan the page. My manual basically states you should run the good stuff, but the low end stuff WILL NOT damage the vehicle.
No where...all premium gas in AZ is 91 octane. You can mix some 100/101 octane in though. Let me know if you need/want to know where to get it.
THe higher the octane the lower the combustibility of the gas. That means that the higher octane is more precise as to the timing of the combustion in the cylinder. This is why putting higher octane in a car like a corolla MIGHT make the car more perky, as the point at which combustion occurs is more exacting. However, putting a lower grade gasoline in your mcs means the gas may combust earlier than it's supposed to and therefore is pre-detinating. THat's why you should use a higher octane as it will detinate in the engine when it is expected by the computer instead of maybe detinating too early because the gas has a lower combustion point. In other the words a lower octane's point of combustion is not as specific as a higher octane which is more precise
Thank you. Happy Motoring.

Pretty good list here. Note that a lot of them are leaded fuels. I like the Trick 101 a lot, but use the Shell 100 octane at the station at 56th and Bell becasue it's a bit easier to get to...
Edit...try to find and call before you go as they are not personally verified. I tried to find one of them once and it no longer had the high octane...
