Ford SVT LSD fitment

I was browsing though old post and came upon one that mentone that the SVT focus shares a tranny with the MCS and that the SVT LSD is 2/3 the cost of Quaife. It also mentoned a TT gear box but i beleve that it is a different design, (i previousaly owned audi and vw and have worked on newer ones and no that i have seen have equal length Drive Shafts, i know it is poor justification but VAG dosen' tlike to share outside thae family).
Someone said that had the ford part and someone said they had installed the part but gave no further info.

So, has anyone tryed installing a Ford Racing SVT LSD in a MCS?

-Jonathan

PS
I hope it does fit because then i woldn be ashamed to have a ford racing link in my bookmarks!

link to ford part (it is the same design as the Quaife)

I'd say put the extra 1/3 of the Quaife LSD price and get it.

You'll spend a few hundreds $$$ on installation itself. Get a LSD that fits right there!

I've spend close to $4K on a 05 tranny with LSD a few months ago and I love the LSD!! It's a great mod and totally worth it!

Jonathan:

I checked your link to the Ford Performance Parts info on the LSD and believe it bears looking into. I say this because the Quaife LSD for the MINI and the Focus SVT is the SAME part - you can check the part numbers to verify. I know nothing about the Ford part - who makes it, etc., but if the Quaife is identical, then maybe this LSD is as well. The cheapest I have seen the Quaife for is approximately $1100 for either a MINI or Focus SVT application. I did alot of searching hoping that the same Quaife might be priced cheaper for the Focus than the MINI, as had been mentioned in some old thread, but no such luck.

I have an '03 MCS and REALLY want an LSD but I am also REALLY on a tight budget. A savings of $300.00 or more is attractive.

I am no expert and would like to hear more from someone out there with some expertise on the subject. Anyone?

If no one chimes in with some definitive answers Jonathan, maybe between us you and I can try to figure out if the Ford part will work and is worth it.

In my experiece, limited as it may be, Ford is synonymous with poor quality. I have sevral friends whos Fords only lasted 90k. Why not spend the extra and get a part that will last as long as the car will? You may save now, but the Ford part will undoubtably crap out much sooner than the Quaife.

ANYBODY ELSE?

I am researching, but not turning up too much. This may in fact be a quality part, I don't know - what if it is just a re-badged Quaife? (again, I don't know if such a thing exists, but I would like to know more about this Ford part, such as the manufacturer, etc.)

If it is the same LSD, or a quality piece that will work well, $300.00 plus in savings makes a difference to me.

I know for a fact the Ford is different - tried it. The ring mounts differently on the Ford.

Hope that helps!

If you are interested in a cheaper LSD you may want to check out the yards that hav '05 gearboxes. They are expensive, but if the lot is willing to open it up, it would be cheaper.

Unfortunately, MINI only has it as a single part number for the whole box.
