i was board in class today and thought self, "Do any aftermarket flashes learn like the stock ecu? For that matter does the JCW flash learn?"

just curious,

They all do...

I'm not aware of any flash that changes how the ECU does what it does. What they do is change the targets that the ECU aims for (timing, RPM limit, fuel delivery etc).

But in the name of complete disclosure, they haven't shared thier code with me so it's possible I'm wrong....

Can't answer the first question, but the JCW flash is a learning program. Least, that's what I was told by the dealer and a tech.

Can we stop all this "learning" stuff about ECUs? They are not artificial intelligence, and consequently they do not learn. They adapt, using pre-programmed algorithms, that's it! If you modify your car, and change some of the parameters used by these algorithms, then they "adapt" to these different values, but they don't learn. So long as you only change the parameters that the ECU uses, then it will all be good, but if there's a parameter that affects performance that is not used by these algorithms, then it doesn't matter what flash you have in your ECU, it will not "adapt."

Rant mode <off>

So no matter how many times I "teach" it, my car will not "learn" how to bring me a beer? Bummer.

Being a wine drinker, I've tried this, and I'm afraid I must report no success yet. It does -deliver- wine to me, but I seem to be the AI component (more I before the wine delivery and consumption than after, I'll admit.)
Now, if you can program the ECU to bring beers I'll still claim that it's not "learning", it's just responding as prescribed by the beer delivery algorithm.

cheers (and I mean it!)

"Fuzzl Logic" was the trem a few years ago. Where "learn" came from addaptive or acclimate, 2 other terms that were used & "learn" just caught on. Personaly, the "fuzzy" part of an ECU or for that mater any chip function was my favorite.
