Airbag Help in R53

I have bought a damaged Cooper S and the front airbags are deployed. Does anyone knows if it is necessary to change the Control Unit box together with the airbags.

do NOT change the controller

it is resettable up to 3 deployments. HOWEVER-you will need a new battery cable(fuseible link blows, cuts power to control unit), new front seat belts and possibly new front buckles. these are all pyrotechnic and deploy with a frontal deployment.

Are you sure with the front seat belts, because they seems to work fine. And there is no wire to them, so I can´t see how their safety function works. What battery cable do you mean???

sorry-only buckles in these

the buckles are the pyro side in these cars, sorry about that. all bmw products, MINI included, use a fuseable link at the battery end of the positive cable. when the airbags deploy, it burns so there is no longer power to the system, should an emergency crew have equipment shoved into the doors or somehwere, some other component cannot deploy. I have seen one regular cooper, one S that DID NOT burn this link, with a front deployment but that is not the norm and there are a few documnted stories here on nam about the link failing without a deployment on earlier cars

Scott,

Thanks for sharing that. Great little bit of info about the MCS.

Hope to see ya at the next SCMM breakfast, and hope all is well with your family.

Happy Holidays,

Jason

If I understand you right (sorry, I am danish), you say that it should only be neccessary to replace the airbags and maybe that fuse which may be blown and resetting the control box, then it may be ok again. By the way, do you know where to find a right drive axle for a Cooper S Automatic. Is there somewhere in the US to buy used´s parts for such a fine car.
