Drivetrain Mods for MINI Cooper (Not the S)
Mods for MINI Cooper (Not the S)
Well howdy folks and I must apologize in advance. I am new to the site and have never posted. I have a Chili Red 2002 Mini with 77K miles. I LOVE THIS CAR! I however don't have the S series. This car is so much fun to own so I can only imagine how much fun the S series is. I comment all the time to people that I love it so much I would buy TWO of them. Here comes my question. Is there a list or posting somewhere that might give me some mod ideas for the non-S series? The car is peppy and once up to speed is plenty fun but every guy (or gal for that matter) would enjoy that much more performance. Any ideas? I have only added the IPOD connector at this point but would love to add some performance. Hey did I mention I love these cars? Holy cow they are great.
Thanks for your input and attention.

Any and All
Well mine is pretty standard. I think over time I would like to change the wheels and tires which will probably be first. The tires I have on it aren't going to last TOO much longer. It handles well so I would think Go Fast would be priority #1. Believe it or not I commute 62 miles each way to work each day. I have put over 10K on it in the last 3 months. So obviously it has to be reliable but a little more puch would be nice.

Also I forgot to mention that I am a network administrator for a nice sized group of auto dealerships. We don't sell Mini's but we do have an account with BMW/Mini of Dallas. So I can get parts etc from them at cost +10. That has to help.

Biggest bang for the buck, performance-wise is a head, cam, and software for the Cooper... a CAI and cat-back don't add a whole lot.
IMHO, while our cars handle well stock, the speed is really in the suspension. In other words, I'd start with the suspension first...

This is MY current list taken from the Cooper forum that MDSBRAIN linked you to. Note all the suspension parts. You can also add camber plates in there. I have done everything suspension-wise you can. It is where the speed is at on a Cooper. On the way is a full OBX exhaust, ALTA alternator pulley and crank pulley. Good luck on your modding.

Let's just say that it's far from stock:
Suspension - TSW Softcore suspension, Ireland camber plates, KMAC rear camber kit, 19mm H&R rear swaybar, Powergrid endlinks
Power - Custom ported/polished head, S Inconel valves, Schrick cam, MTH'd, aFe intake, Miltek header and cat, Borla cat-back
Soon to have a new tranny, Quaife, and stage 3 clutch with all the trimmings...
