Unichip "Flux" beta test

I now have the Unichip "Flux" beta installed in the SpiderX you can find the specs on the website which is www.unichip.us.com....

It has a virtual dyno, 0-60, shift light, all kinds of monitoring including IAT, coolant temp, long and short term trim, data logging,...... and a whole lot more..... this thing is just cool and some time in the not too distant future you will be able to tune...... it is a PDA that through bluetooth talks to your Unichip...... now this is what a lot of us have been talking about......

I'm tired and it is late so this is not my best effort but I will add to this post in the next few days as I live with it (Flux) and get to know it better......

VERY interested in this. Been waiting for a legitimate end-user tuneable ECU. From what I read on the site it may not be totally self-sufficient (ie relying on maps from Unichip) but it is a step in the right direction.

Or I read it wrong. Which is possible because it's 1am and I just read through that whole "Heads...a discussion" thread

Glad you got one to play with Bob. Curious to hear your impressions over time...

FYI - that website (www.unichip.us.com) is currently not doing it for me...

Is there something I'm missing?
The latest version is just the latest version, called the "Flux" ???
The "Flux" w/ bluetooth allows the use of stored maps on Windows CE, I got that.
Other than the addition of bluetooth to the box, what's the difference? You now have the capability to change maps without sending the box for a tune, got this part too.
I also got the data aquision part - very cool.

There's more?

data logging, 0-60, virtual dyno, monitor obdll functions like coolant temp, IAT, ...the Flux is an adjunct to the Unichip not the Unichip itself.... go to the website and check it out......

Thanks Spyder, I got all of that. I think the data acquistion part of the package is very cool. I guess my question should have been, is the only difference the addition of the bluetooth interface to the box?

Yep. Just ran a dyno this past weekend without it. Including crap ethanol gas and a slightly warmer day I was only 10 HP and about 7 ft/lbs down from my last run. That last run was with the UniChip under better conditions.

My original before and after netted ~9HP. I've don't recall ever seeing data where anyone got 20HP or ft/lbs from an off the shelf unit.
Some of the custom tune people may have gotten that but I sure don't remember it.

Any links?

I haven't bitched about it in the past but after seeing that chart and reading this stuff all I can say is I bought a POS for $700.

You needed to buy the 'flux capacitor' version... it needs to be pushed by a locamotive to the correct speed... then you'll see those gains

Don't forget that you need 1.21 jigawatts of power to be funneled down into the flux capacitor at the precise moment you hit 88 MPH, or else it'll be useless.

If only Mr. Fusion made a kit for the MINI...

:-)

This is not right. It can't have the right tune in it. Who put the tune in it?

Obe, I am more inclined to believe small numbers than large ones on all mods...... except those that blow things up.....

Factory car tunes are getting better all the time.

Case 1) Gary got his Mini unichipped by Josh (I think) during one of the unichipers visits out here to tune up someones race car. Got about 7 hp, but just up top at the very end of the RPM scale. Was very close to stock most of the RPM range. In talking to the Unichip guys, they claim that the more away from stock the motor is, the more a unit like this can provide benefit.

Case 2) In one of the issues of European Car, one of the articles mentioned that many of the tuning companies aren't getting much, if any, more out of tuning a car that is stock. I guess that if that's true, engine managment is getting to the point where the systems can be right at the edge, and pull back in time if there's trouble...... It means that the manufacturers are delivering more of what they're building, and the market for the tuners is getting more limited in that they are best suited for modified cars. Well, other than upping boost limits......

The big reason for the tune....at least for me is to get all the bolt ons to play nice with each other..... not so much for power .... I think 10 WHP on a Mini is a good number if it is smooth and predictable.....

It's one of the first units shipped. Straight from UniChip. It was a replacement for one of the units that threw codes in the early units.

Yep TQ was why I bought it. Drove it for well over a year and when I pulled it off I could hardly tell it was gone so I left it off.

Until this thread I didn't realize it sucked that bad so I wrote it off as a "well ****** me" moment.

If I can get it fixed and get 15 ft/lbs out of it I'll keep it.

Thanks everyone for the input.

It should be able to deliver 15... up to 20, what mods do you have? I know about the GRS..... I have seen better than 20 with pulley, CAI, cat back, 380s, cant realy tell what the ICs are worth.

Not much. Webb HDI CAI, Magnaflow Cat back, SD Coil, 15% Pulley.
