I was just able to secure the MINI Aftersales Parts Bulletin #M110103. This is advanced information, and details the JCW kit.

It details the parts, cost and performance. First, the performance - in comparison to the stock S:

163hp @ 6000RPM 200hp @ 6950RPM
155lb-ft @ 4000RPM 177lb-ft @ 4000RPM
0-60 6.9 seconds 0-60 6.5 seconds
50-75 6.7 seconds 0-60 5.6 seconds
135 mph top speed 140 mph top speed

Next, the kit includes coated rotors on the stock M45 Eaton Supercharger and a pulley, a ported and polished head, ECU, SS cat-back exhaust, new spark plugs, JCW engine cover, new belt, consecutively numbered engine badging, front bumper and boot emblems, required gaskets. It is available only as a kit, # 11 12 0 302 673.

Now, for the moment you've all been waiting for, the price: $4500 MSRP, not including installation, and they keep the stock head and your supercharger (they just replace it instead of removing and installing the pulley) - in other words (and in fact the words they use in the bulletin) it's an exchange plus the $4500. The suggested installation time on the bulletin is 10 hours.

Hope that helps!

Randy

Oh boy, what a deal...NOT! I am surprised that MINI even bothered to hype this so much with this kind of cost/performance gain. Randy, sign me up for your program!

No, not an RS badge - it is a WORKS badge. It is an oval with a line through it. The badge is black and red, and it actually looks pretty nifty.

I'm intrigued by the front bumper badge. Glad to hear you like it!

I thought the stock rotors in the supercharger were teflon coated as well? Is this that "5th gen" formula? Isn't teflon coating done in a supercharger to reduce friction and hence heat? If so without this new coating is it possible the supercharger with a 15% reduction pulley is performing at more than designed tollerances? Hence the reason for the new coating?

$4500us+installation. Hrm, that's $6750cdn +installation @$90cdn/hour ($900cdn) for a grand total of $7650+tax (15%) = $8797.50cdn

This assumes they don't put a lower retail here which they usually do. Regarless anyway you look at it the folks at BMW must be smoking some of the finest drugs money can buy. My brakedown of equivelent aftermarket all prices US $:

$600 exhaust
$200 pulley
$500 (to port and polish existing head)
$500 (ECU)
$500 (intake, plugs, belts, badges GENEROUS)

Total: $2300
Installation approx 7-8 hours.

Yup, must be the good drugs they get in Germany.

I know things in the UK are pricey, but here that's just over the top!
Badges Shouldn't say WORKS ...more like WORK$

It's not a car... its a club!
Pay your fees & you get to claim (a loose) afiliation with Cooper S' of yore... The all new MINI Cooper S "******" addition!

Randy:
Do you know what are the blades coted with? Ceramic...? or something a bit more slippery like the aforementioned tefelon? And BTW (while I'm thinking of it) what's the verdict on the Whipple?

5th Gen refers to the rotor design in the Eaton. It really isn't a modified roots type, it is just a 5th gen design - every new gen is really modified...

The supercharger in the regular S is a 5th gen design. It is coated with a teflon based lining. I honestly think the reason they say that is to justify the cost of a pulley, some port work, the ECU and a cat-back.

I can't fault JCW or BMW - if the market bears the price, that's what it's worth. It is also factory blessed, so it becomes a higher model designation in the end with a little more exclusivity to boot. For some, this is worth the cash, and that's "OK" ('cause dog-gone-it, people like me). That was a Stuart Smalley reference for those of you who didn't get it .

There is room in the market in my opinion for both the factory JCW stuff, and the aftermarket performance stuff. There are benefits to both. Which is for you is a subjective and personal call.

I just thought some facts would be good to finally get out there.

BTW, if you want the pulley, I am running the installation with the pulley included for under $500. This, with an intake, throttle body and exhaust will get you to the same place the JCW kit does, but it voids the warranty (remember that part when I said both have benefits?). The intake is $240, the throttle body is $450, and the exhaust is $600. Installation on these too would run another $130 or so. That gets you the performance of the JCW kit at under $2000 installed! I would also address a couple other areas - minimally the rear swaybar and brake pads (another $140 for front pads and $190 for the swaybar, plus another $150 or so for labor).

Hope all of this helps!

Randy -- great information. Much appreciated. It sounds like a hot setup. I'll be ordering mine as soon as possible. Were you able to find out exactly when the kits will be available for dealers to order and install?

THanks for the info Randy! I can't wait to get one of your shirts. BTW, do you have any MINI-Motorsports stickers (preferably blue) that I could get to put on my rear side window next to my Helix sticker????

Randy,

Thanks for the info. It was easy to make the decision on which upgrade path to take after that seeing that. Goodbye Engine and Powertrain Warranty, with the $3000+ savings on parts and labor, it was a no brainer. Now I just have to work out the details on driving to Denver for the install. Randy, you need a snazzy name for your upgrade package too. As for badges, we don't need no stinking badges, we just want horsepower.

I'm sure we have among us a finance manager who can set us up with a Warranty Paranoia account, into which MCS owners can deposit their $3000 (difference between JCW and aftermarket kits) and earn interest, while being able to withdraw their money in the unfortunate event of an unreimbursed warranty claim.

Maybe the Compund Interest Works package? And include a free badge for the car?

How about the Motorsport S? I hate to say that it's a package. I want to be able to mix and match products to give folks what they really want. If I package it, it's cookie cutter, and you may not care a bit for the exhaust for example, but want the full brake package. Whatever we come up with, if it's 200hp, it'll be the Motorsport S - how's that

greatgro,

I have some silver and I have some white - the new ones aren't ready yet (with the very cool logo that COOPERation designed).

So basically the only thing holding back the aftermarket people from having the same setup (minus the badges and such) is the ECU?

Also does anyone have any thoughts on this new supercharger and BMW proving that a 15% pulley caused a fault? If the supercharger itself is basically the same with a smaller pulley then a smaller pulley shouldn't be the cause right?

One final question.... how much does porting and polishing the heads do? What is involved and are the gains really that great? Seems too pricey if you ask me.

My thinking about JCW pricing as of yesterday was:

$4000 installed = a good price
$4500 installed = a fair price taking into consideration BMW/warranty markup
$5000 installed = a likely price taking into consideration BMW/warranty markup

but,
$4500 + 10 hour install @ approx $100/hr + tax = ridiculous!

I got the OFFICIAL letter from my dealer today. It's definitely $4500 + installation which they are not sure how long it will take. They say 10 hours is the minimum. So the minimum is $4500 + 900$ labor (Minimum) plus tax = $5724 at the VERY LEAST!

Sorry...not for me! Plus I already have 175lbs of torque, I'll pass that up in a few months I'm sure!

darn it, I have a deep respect to John Cooper and his reputation, but for that price I would rather buy a classic mini, and the combined horsepower of my MCS plus the Classic mini should reach the 200 marker, and I will be much happier driving around in that some days, and some days on the MCS.

I'm going to jump on the JCW kit as soon as its released. Expensive, yeah, but love the car and want to have the top-of-the-line high performance version. Should make for the most fun driving potential and should be at least somewhat rare down the road. Expect to keep it many years so not too worried about the extra few thousand $'s.

Chegamais, since it sounds like you may be buying a Classic Mini, which year/model are you looking for?
