GROUP BUY: UniChip

Hi, I've got a group buy going on UniChips with an associate of mine.

Price is $625 +shipping in the CONUS

These will be mapped (with basic maps)

These usually retail for $800, so it will be a savings of $175!!!

Need 10 to make it happen.

Post or PM

Thanks!

I thought that the new UNIChips were like 2 grand? Are we talking the "old" style ones? If not, that's one heck of a deal!

No, not 2 grand. From Webb they are $805, from Outmotoring and Detroit Tuned they are $800

I was at the Monterey Historics and spoke with Jack Friedman, I believe the President of UNIChip, at least here in the U.S.

He showed me, and we talked about the "new" UNIChip that it would be available in what was then the coming days... He said the price was in the 2 grand range, and with that offered much more than the current UNChip, which I have...

That is what I seek to clarify here.

x 2, This REALLY needs to be clear. If it's the new model ("flux" or something its called) its a super great deal.

Ok well I know MINIMort and I am able to clarify for you a bit here. It is the Unichip same as everyone else is selling right now. Its the normal piggy-back ECU system that has been available. These are brand new in the box. This is not the $2000+ new product that Unichip has been developing.

That's right Beatnut. It's the same that everyone else has for sale now, just for a lot less $$$. Not the new one at this price. But still a good deal!

Tony, can you share with us the conversation you had with the UNIChip CEO? What advantages does the "new" UNIChip (which I won't be able to afford) offer over the "old" UNIChip (which I also can't afford)?

Even if the "new" UNIChip is user-customizable, can it be justified at 1/2 the price of a M62 SC + "old" UNIChip combo?

Seriously considering taking up minimort's offer here, since it seems that people doing ECU tunes with the UNIChip are less likely to have pinging problems compared to MTH customers.

Sounds like a good deal. How do you re-program the UniChip as you add more modifications? Do you send it back to the manufacturer, or are there local shops that re-program these?

There is no way that I can do any justice to what the new UNIChip will offer. I'll just say that it will provide a lot more, including a PDA interface for ascertaining performance, and even the ability to modify some parameters, by the the end user. There will be the ability to store more than a couple of maps also. There is more, but I don't remember...

For those who want the most current stuff, I'm sure this will make for some used UNIChips in the Marketplace.

I'm waiting for the M62, then I will decide if my current UNChip is an ideal solution; and I tend to feel that it will serve me well as that is one of the reasons why I got it - to evolve with my mods...

Yeah, this will be the current version, but it looks like we will be doing them with the basic maps instead of unmapped, so the price is $625 with mapping!

Can you clarify on the basic mapping? Meaning could a map be loaded for my car with the follow mods:

CAI, 15% pulley, Header w/ high-flow CAT, CAT-back exhaust

Group buy should help.

But in my experience, a one-map-fits-all package will mean most purchasers are likely to leave a substantial bit of performance on the table without a custom tune.

I think this is true even if all the cars had the exact same mods.

In my (hopefully unique) case, the performance of a 'custom map' was notably worse than stock. Until we got the custom tuning done. Then, whoah, baby!

My "free" Fireball ECU turned out to just be they read my ecu to learn about the MCSa.

I've had a few different ecu tunes and I am curious as my mods change how they work. I am looking to have a ecu tune done soon once I have my mods and wallet in check.

You know what you should do...take a Unichip and have it dyno tuned...or have someone take it and road tune it
