This is very close to what inimmini did....

but I think you are underestimating the ability of the air through the radiator to get into the filter from the front. That's what screws you at speed. All that hot air goes through the radiator, and runs into the engine, and where's it to go from there? The answer isn't good. That's why data logging the HAI showed that without any baffleing, it doesn't give any power at all. The stuff at the back will help a lot with heat soak at rest, for all the reasons you list. But the air flow to the filter can get very warm because of the radiator heated air.

Plans have changed AGAIN! I think I'm going to do the baffle like inimmini did, not the last one posted. The space in the base will house all the hardware for another project. IT will either be hidden under the baffle, or a tank will go where the top of the airbox was..... I'll give a hint... It's either water injection, water to air IC, or IC sprayer!

So you're gonna dump the air intake diverter thing you did?

No such luck...

I'm gonna keep the stuff in the front, and do some stuff in the back. I thought about hacking a stock airbox to make it look more stealthy, but that's not gonna work out (at least yet).

What about an AGS heat shield like box?

My stuff started with an AGS!

I liked the heat shield, but it's open on the bottom and I thought that I could route the air better into it. That's what put the first Al tape onto the front.... The AGS puts the filter lower and more to the frame rail than the HAI, so the filter doesn't stick as high (it doesn't bump the hood liner, for example). But there are still paths for radiator air to get in....

When I took the AGS off (just too much tinkering for me... nothing stays on long) and went back to the HAI, the seed had been planted.

I just mounted water injection stuff in the base of the airbox, and the inimmini baffle will cover it, and provide the additional baffling to block air from the header. FWIW, the next header going it has inside/outside thermal barrier coatings, so I anticipate a significant drop in underhood temps...
