Drivetrain HELP!!! crank pulley got torn off
Looks like another reason to replace those pre Jan '05 dampeners with the new style. I replaced mine this spring for the weight reduction, but it looks like it may have been the right call for more than one reason. Sorry for your trouble man. I threw a belt buzzing around town and that was a big enough pain to change in a parking lot, would hate to have done the dampener too! Glad you made it to the drive.
The best thing is to go the new OEM crank pulley, post Jan 05. Next is to go to a same size or oversized crank pulley. Do not go to an pre-05 OEM. A lot of people are having noise issues and other with them. I am changing mine next week. No offense to anyone offering crank pulleys that are exactly the same in design, as the one that just failed.

thanks for all the offers on the crank pulley, i have to wait on that for now. i think i should just start savin for a rebuild. im pretty sure i f***ed up some internal components and what not.
Dontcha think that crank pulley just torqued itself in half? From the pictures it could even have been cracked for some time. Hard to tell. I don't know if the tensioner could come down and force that pulley to shear in half like it did. Maybe it could. A frozen pulley or idler would chew up the belt, but the crank pulley should have survived that.
One of our clubbers was drag racing at a local track and lost the tensioner/idler pulley. It chewed itself up and the belt. But I don't think it did the crank pulley.
Later, I'm going outside with a flashlight and inspect my '02.

Kalbone,
Just so I understand. You believe that your original serpentine belt with 87k miles blew, gathering underneath and causing your crankcase pulley to tear itself apart. Said belt had been "crying out for help" for about 9 months prior to self destruction. All seems ok in the tensioner and sc pulley areas. Need to replace belt and crank pulley, and maybe upgrade to a smaller pulley in the process, as well as an updated belt tensioner pulley?
I'll be replacing my belt at 60k.

My car has started squealing when starting it after its been off for a long time, for example over night. It squeals for about 1min or so. I never had this before, it occured after changing to my Alta 15% SC Pulley but I never got the squealing except for a week or so after the install. What should I check to see if everything is ok?

Kelvin, you need to get a new crank pulley no matter what else may be wrong. Start there, see if you can free up the SC and go from there. There maybe nothing else wrong with your motor. Does your tensioner assy look OK? I have a spare.

There are others that sell stops, MyMINI is one:

Here is a NAM thread discussing them including some homemade products:

Hope that helps.
