M7 versus Milltek CatBack Exhaust

on a scale of 1-10, please rate the "loudness" of each of the two systems.

thanks.

the milltek is not as loud as the m7.
if the milltek were considered a 5 on a scale of 1-10 the m7 would be at least a 7. this is if you do not have a header...
btw-m7 just pulled production on this product. they were trying to quiet it down and could not... + these were all hand made which made these very expensive for them to produce w/ a low profit return. sad to hear 'cause this is a good looking/sounding product.

so if you can get one from somewhere i'd take it, it's gonna be a hot commodity!

i personally like the m7 sound. very throaty/raspy. slight drone on the freeway but all aftermarket exhausts have a drone at a particular rpm... each has a different drone "tone" and each at different rpm's, every person has a different tolerance for this drone...

you should try to find a MINI gathering/event in your area and see/hear what people have. that's the best way to judge exhaust tones.

good luck on your search!

Milltek - 1, M7 - 10 The M7 is loud, but it's got the lowest frequency of any MINI exhaust I've heard. It sounds like an ominous growl at idle. I currently have an M7 on my MINI and my former exhaust was a Milltek. If you're anywhere near MTTS, you can hear it on my car since Custom Mini Shop is going the distance. We will have the M7 exhausts with us.

I can back that up... it is the lowest pitch tone I have heard on a Mini....I talked with Peter yesterday and he said he was considering dropping it but can that be confirmed?...... I like the comment about going to a Mini gathering and listen... most people are glad to start their engines for you....

M7 might have made your decision a bit easier. See post 51. Too bad, because the M7 unit looked so sweet.

now it's a "collectors item" and demand will triple... never fails when a product is discontinued especially when it is too expensive

It gets rather frustrating to be an early adopter of a product, only to have it deficient in one area or another for whatever reason and then have the vendor/manufacturer pull it.

This is a general beef of mine because then the consumer is stuck with something that's a beta test.

I am lobbying for slightly larger muffler cans to quiet it just a little and not ruin the great low pitch. The M7 exhaust is also the best built exhaust I have seen and the welds and hanger fittings are much better than the Milltek that I have. And the tips are tops. Everytime I talk to Peter we discuss the exhaust and I was pitching the continuation when we were cut off yesterday. I really believe there is a market for a slightly less loud version (if not the current version) of the M7 exhaust. Custom Mini Shop still has two black tip and one SS tip that we will be bringing on the MTTS for sale. I hope we can get more in the future so let Peter know. Thanks.

If you are interested in the exhaust, contact PowerTone, which supplied them to M7.
