The incredible shrinking Milltek?

Hey all. Slight trouble w/my Milltek catback. Been on the car since late '05, love it, etc. However, this last wash I noticed my tips seemed to be sitting further back than normal, to the point that they are barely visible under the rear valance.

I took it out for normal errands, checked again, and they seem normal (can read Milltek Sport on the tips). Repeated this little scenario twice: Fine when warm, sitting further back (though not high or low) when cool.

Crawled up under the car after an hour of cool-off, passenger side hangers seem to be sitting very shallow in the rubber mounts. Not something I want to evaluate/adjust when the car is hot, and I'm sure not thinking that the metal is expanding 1" or more under heat, but clearly something is not right.

Anyone ever experience this phenomena? Anything I can do? I can provide pictures if that'd help. Thanks in advance!

Mine too..

My Milltek does the same thing...

I have the aero kit - so I setup the tips a little further out (than a regular bumper kit) when cold.. But I do notice a "growth" of the tips when hot.. I have not measured it directly yet..

What I had done to get the tips to sit right when cold was to add a 3/8" spacer in the rear connection (just before the Y-split). Without that spacer it was difficult to get the tips in te right spot and get the slip joint to seal up...

Hope that helps

When mine was installed, I was told it would expand when hot and then shrink when cold.

The Milltek can expand considerably when hot. I have mine set so the tips are flush with the rear valence when cold. When especially hot from hard running, the tips are now at least an inch from the surface. Check to make sure that when the system is hot that it does not contact the battery box. If it does, it can sometimes cause the slip joint to get pushed together and once cold, the system tucks further in than originally intended.

Thanks for all the input guys... I never knew that the system would expand like that, but don't think it was before (I tend to notice these little things): Anyway, just crawled back under it, and noticed some safety-wire that had come undone from one of the hangers. Guessing that was what was holding it 'forward' before.
