DFIC/diverter

Love my DFIC.

However, I wonder if I'm getting all there is to get from it.

My chrome diverter's hoziontal plate meets the front surface of the DFIC exactly one row of air inlets too high.

In other words, the bottom row of air inlets on the DFIC get no ram air whatsoever.

They are blocked off by the air diverter, which meets the front of the DFIC just above the bottom row.

Seems like the only fix is to raise the DFIC. Don't know how, though.

Dropping the diverter doesn't seem possible, as it's already mounted solidly at the two attachment points.

So two questions:

(1) What am I doing wrong?

or

(2) Is there a simple fix that I just don't see?

Sorry I can't help but can you do pictures?
That has to help the people that have done the install. Maybe they can spot something.

Good luck

Hi Guys......

Each and every car has small differences in the height of the IC. We had to
shave some material of the mounting posts with a dremmel to lower the diverter on one car, on another (maxminis) two small slits on each side
with a little bit of bending and you'll be there.

And as always....Call me if you need tech help...

Thanks Peter,

Getting ready to take a trip this week with auto-x the first day I'm back.

Didn't wanta bug you on a Sunday.

Even so, you stepped in. Thanks!

I had thought of the slit and bend approach.

Raising the DFIC is probably not a good idea anyway as it would likely stress the boots.

Jim...it's the dang rubber boots...get rid of it and replace it with Alta's silicone boots...here why:

1-unless you find a way to mount the DFIC to the motor (I was going to make a new diverter and weld it to the DFIC so both were locked together), it will move side/side and up/down because the rubber is so flexible.

2-The side/side motion may cause your boots to eventually slip off if they're oiled up. The up/down can dent your hood if you have removed your hoodliner (which I found out the hard way...but was remedied by extreme dent removal Project M7 Louvers!).

3-The top seal (attached to the hood) is stiffer than the rubber boots and pushed the DFIC down past the first core...

4-Alta's silicone boots are rigid side/side and up/down...no movement...problem solved

Thanks Sid,

Sounds good.

I'll give that a try.

Frankly, it works pretty darn well even with the bottom row blocked!

The bottom row should be in the clear once you do this...it worked for me...

Just a quick heads up. We have sourced a new silicone boot for the DFIC and will be placing an order when we return from the event this weekend. They offer a few colors . Other than basic black what would you like to see. Not that we can guatantee them but we will try to accomodate a few different if possible.

What a relief! GTT products are a PITA to acquire, and I'd rather not give any more of my business to Alta.

I'd love to see the IC boots in neon orange or pink , but I think blue would go better with the rest of my engine bay.

Can you give us any hints of how much these boots may end up being priced at, Randy?

We will have a better idea price wise next week but lets just say that these will be more of a accomodation to our DFIC buyers and not something we are looking to make profit on. They will be as reasonable as we can make them and should be the least expensive on the market.

Count me in, and I'd like some in blue, black, or silver.
Maybe more of a darker blue than the ALTA ones.
