Thanks! I'll be doing extensive write-ups as the progress unfolds...

First- Custom Air Box similar to HDI

Second- DFIC - Most wouldn't consider this a beginning mod, but I think it will make all the others, that much more effective. Plus, someone needs to report on how it performs on an almost stock S.

Third- 19% pulley

Fourth- Springs

Fifth- M7 STB

Sixth- RSpeed Exhaust, OBX header wrapped with header wrap...

Hopefully the rims I want will be here by then too! I'd share, but I'm afraid someone else will read this and make my wait even longer!

Sounds good, but you really need to explain better about how you are planning on using the car.

Mine is mostly going to be a street GOD , but will see a few autocrosses and track events each year.

I feel with the extra cooling capacity of the DFIC, and watching the REV limit, the 19% Pulley will be safe for me. I'm really trying to build a very powerful, midrange of the powerband, mini. That's why I'm going with a 4-2-1 Header such as the OBX.

Whatever you decide, it sounds like a great Mini! BEST OF LUCK!

purely a street car. I have a dedicated track car for track and the occasional auto x. I just want something reliable and fun to drive. I'm selling my 05 M3 and buying the mini. I want to take some of the money from the M3 and put it into the cooper. I have a set amount i am going to spend cuz if i don't things will get out of hand like they always do.

LoL... theres an Alta-Twurbo Kit for sale on ebay right now... $1900 Buy IT NOW.... I'm VERY happy I already spent my budget! HEHEH!

Sorry I missed your statement about your intentions for the car.

If I were you, I'd definetly consider the 19% for a purely street car.

After everything I listed is done, I'm going to put it on a dyno to check out the Air Fuel mix, and hopefully I will still have enough headroom to add a 3-4% Crank pulley... might require injectors and ecu tune, but, we'll get to that... I'm not doing that till I find out how it sits with the stock tune, and fuel setup.

GO FOR IT!

I am very partial toward the HDI box from DDM... M7 is now handling them as well as DDM.... Alta is not a bad choice

yeah i just found the webb HDI and that looks good. I haven't seen the DDM box. the webb box looks to be a better choice then the alta or mini madness cai.

Is there any reason to get the mini madness cowl mod with the webb hdi? kinda confused about what the cowl mod does.

My .02, everything looks good BUT don’t' waste $760 on a Header when you can get a OBX shipped for under 2. There are many threads out there about how well the OBX performs. I would take what's left over and go with MTH ecu tune. That's just me. Good luck! -- Johan

I have read posts about the header not fitting perfectly and needing mods just to get it on there. Plus it doesn't have a flex joint and i don't feel like going through the hassle of finding a cat, mocking it up and welding it together. Just a pain. Plus every other OBX product i have delt with in the past has caused nothing but head aches. I want something where all i have to do is bolt on.

Sorry You had issues with OBX...Mine bolted right up and don't have any problems without a flex joint. I paid Eric from www.helix13.com for an hour and a half worth of labour for install. That included cutting out the stock cat and welding a flange to mount up to the header. Good Luck Tschus -- Johan

SEE post #2! First thing said was to get a head. ITs the most important thing.

Why dont you just go talk to Helix, or John at LDG. I am sure ALL of them would be more than glad to help you. I left out M7 and WMS simply because your on the East Coast and it would be much easier.

Well my first MCS (extensively modified) was very quick and it handled well.

Sold it at 84,000 miles.

Bought pretty much the same model again, only this time with the 06 tranny advantage and no sunroof to reduce weight and to improve balance.

For acceleration (this ABSOLUTELY assumes you've done sway bar and maybe some other handling and stopping things first):

Pulley
Crank pulley
Intake
Colder plugs
ECU
Head

I added the header to my first car which was more exensively modified than the new one so far.

I'd say that the header made very little difference for the money, comparatively speaking.

ECU or head would make much more difference.

Honestly, in your current budget, there's no room for a header of any variety, if you're looking for the highest ROI.

That's not to say you won't want it later, but you're too early in the mod curve.

If you do both head and ecu, I'd think about injectors next, not so much for acceleration, but to keep the engine in a safer place.

But the expense of the head is nowhere near the total head expense, as it is fairly extensive in labor costs.

The other place to gain on acceleration, but in a different manner, is attacking wheel/tire weight and tire diameter.

I've run lightweight 15" wheels and tires almost from the beginning. This won't all fit in your budget of course.

You can get a set of 10.6 lb. Kosei Racing K1 TS wheels for $600, and you have several tire choices. Someone mentioned the T-1 Rs, which are especially light, and can be bought for less than $85 apiece.

So for less than $1000, you can improve your gearing and throttle response, and with the reduction in unsprung weight, you reap benefits in handling and overall responsiveness. But now you may be at $3500....

Probably not the response SpiderX thought I might give.

It just seems to me that getting a head is not really much if any help without the other pieces, ie. less restistive intake and exhaust not to mention the ecu. All of that nearly doubles the budget. Does anyone know how much the head helps if that is the only mod? I can't imagine it being much. Plus i will have to tear my engine apart. I don't have a problem with doing it but its a ton of work. Then there are all the shipping costs for a heavy *** head.

I think i am just going to stick to the bolt ons. The head seems like the way to go if i planned on putting more money into the car in the future but i don't.

I really appreciate all the help guys. I'm real excited and i will def keep you all updated on what happens.
