Hehehe, I wonder if he's putting one in my F150.

Update: So far so good. It seems that everything is back to the way it was before service. I am not sure, but perhaps I got a lucky one.

At least Josh @ unichip is gonna pay to have my car looked at at Scotts performance over here (i'm on my 3rd unichip from josh now). If this doesn't get resolved, i'm sending it back to Randy asking for a refund.

Meeting Randy in person, hes a pretty cool guy. But trying to deal/get ahold of him at his busuniss (i hate to say) is terrible..... I guess i'll be calling eric @ helix for a GIAC now....
Does anyone have a fix for this problem as described by miniboost?

And I don't mean removing Unichip and getting a refund.

My friend has an MCS with
aquamist water injection
Alta CAI
complete supersprint header back exhaust
15% Alta pulley

If he has the Unichip removed then his MCS performs fine.

If he installs the Unichip and he doesn't loose traction and doesn't redline then all is fine.

If he takes a corner fast, EML light comes on and if he hits redline then car goes into limp mode until rpms drop to under 3000. Throttle goes dead but once rpm is down then throttle response comes back and you can drive, just a few seconds in limp mode. Happens every time EML is on and redline is hit.

As far as DSC goes-
With DSC on, it seems to trigger at the same time when traction control reduces power.

With DSC off, it seems to be able to tolerate a lot more traction loss. but if i accelerate hard enough, EML lights up for a split second and throttle goes dead for a split second and then it recovers and all is normal.

Nope. I sent randy my unichip like 2 months ago and he still has it and cant find the issue. I guess it's time for a refund or sell it to someone else. This has been going on for way over a year.... :impatient

Edit: Just re-read my original post and my deal to take it to scotts performance fell through (never got word from unichip or Josh).

Thanks for the update but it's not looking good for any that have this problem. Doesn't seem that there is a reliable fix and the problem could return.

So far best solution is to remove Unichip.

Or if you have Unichip then never loose traction (DSC on) and never redline.

After all sorts of codes and other problems, including no real improvement in performance - even after expensive dyno tunes by authorized Unichip tuners - I pulled mine off.

Now I make more power and no codes (LDG tune)

Minihune, unfortuniately, I think a refund may be the most logical route to go. I recently installed the UniChip into MINInurse's new MINI and all is good. Now the UniChip was programmed with the mods that she has, so I am not sure if that may be the issue for your friend, but I haven't heard anything good about reprogramming lately.

Unichip revisited...

Any updates from users of the chip? Wondering if anything was ever resolved?

I'm still checking with various owners and if you run into problems there is still no consitent fix yet.

When I do find one I'll post it here. So far no luck.

I've just read this entire thread, and couldn't tell if the UniChips in question are the original model (which I believe is called the GP, -?), or the newer "Q" model, or both of them. Thanks to anyone that can clarify.

For mine, it is the old model. BTW, it is in MINInurse's MINI and it works just fine.

I've had both, including expensive dyno tunes by Unichip authorized tuners.

Neither the old nor the new offer any real performance advantages.

When I saw the title of this thread again, it reminded of some who literally have thrown their Unichips..
