Threw UniChip SES and DSC light

We just picked up Soulfire from the dealer on Sat., and today, Mon, it threw the lights and we limped home. Jay disconnected the UniChip and everything is good. Jay checked everywhere on NAM, but everyone says to call Randy Webb. Jay said that the tech at Tate installed the UniChip in the passenger compartment and that the tech probably did not disconect the battery before he disconnected and reconnected the UniChip cables. Could that have done it? Oh, Tate also flashed the ECU for some Emissions recall, 04E-A01. It says reprogram DME for tank leakage diagnostics. Don't know if these things would have anything to do with the problem. The UniChip is uninstalled as of now.

Well, I plugged the UniChip back in and everything seems to be good. It usually takes a couple of days for the chip to acclimate and you really feel the difference. I will see what happens by Thursday. Hopefully all is good.

There is a switch for A and B mappings, no? Is it possible it was on the wrong setting, which I believe is set for 100 octane?

Lots of folks run the 100 octane program with 93 octane just fine.

I believe when you switch to 100, the light turns on? Before the SES, DSC came on, it was switched to 93. When it came on, it was still on 93 and I then changed it to 100 and the SES, DSC stayed on. I than turned the car off and tried to restart it, but it would not start. The starter was going and everything, just wouldn't start. I than disconnected the UniChip and the car started fine.

I was searching earlier about fault codes (so I could have a list/doc laying around for use with AutoEnginuity) and found some people who were having SES lights and such problems with a UniChip. Seems like a couple people narrowed down the problem to a faulty wiring harness.

Indeed. I called Unichip and asked them where the hell mine was. I won it in April, installed it in May just before MOTD, uninstalled it en route to MOTD because of issues, and sent it back the second week of May. I havn't seen it since.

Long story short, they thought it was a return, and they're sending it now. But when I talked to the tech on Monday who told me what was really going on, and he said 'make sure this wire is in this position on the harness'. He tried to explain, but in the end said 'call when you get to your car, and I can talk you through what to look for'.

So yeah, on the newer version 2 harnesses, there's a chance the wiring is wrong. But I don't think MiniNurse would have that issue with her model harness. Could always call unichip and see for yourself tho Stacey. Wouldn't hurt.

Well, everything is going ok for now. The big day will be tomorrow because it usually takes 2 days for it to gather itself.

unichip-junk

I bought a unichip from Randy Webb back in Nov of 05'.
I had nothing but problems (limp mode and all lights).
To make a long story short Randy turned me over to Unichip.
They reprogramed the chip, sent me a different chip, reprogramed that one
sent me a new harness and nothing helped. I then went to a local Unichip rep so he could check the thing out. While waiting for him, Unichip billed my credit card for over $900.00. When I called them and asked what was going on they said you have our parts so we billed you. I told them that I had a rep looking into the problem (because they weren't taking care of it).
and all they had to do was just ask for them back or send a shipping label and I would send them. I also asked what they were going to do about the problem and they told me to take it up with Webb. Then I said I will send you everything, I want my money back just under $1700.00 again they said take that up with Webb. So as it stands I have a bunch of junk parts I'm out $1700.00. The chip (and customer service) is JUNK save your money and try someone else.

This is deffinately not the first time that I have heard of this on NAM, but I have not had a problem till now. If this doesn't work, I may just go to LDG and get his "tuning".

Well, I'd like to point out you've been using yours for months, have had a noticeable difference, and no issues until you took it to the dealer. Unichip may not be to blame here, so lets put down the torches and pitchforks and see how this goes.

I agree. And since I am the one driving the car mostly, I am going to wait and see. They reprogrammed the car computer while at the dealership, as well as moving/unplugging the chip without undoing the battery like we were told to do. So that is one reason why I think this happened. The second reason why is, Jay and I were trying out flipping the switches to see if it made any difference. I don't know if we messed anything up during that time either.
But what I do know now is, it seems to be working fine now and hopefully by tomorrow I will have my SoulFire back.

Does LDG have his tuning chip/computer ready?

No he does not. But he is working on it every day. I was there today, and he had his laptop on top of his muleMINI, working away on it.

I'm having similar issues with mu unichip where when i'm driving and i accellerate hard, it goes into limp-home mode and the throttle is lost. then i let of the gas for about 5 seconds, and all is well again. I have been trying to get ahold of randy for 4 months now and not 1 call back from him. I exchanged 1 PM with brian over there and now he's not even returning my PM's.

At least Josh @ unichip is gonna pay to have my car looked at at Scotts performance over here (i'm on my 3rd unichip from josh now). If this doesn't get resolved, i'm sending it back to Randy asking for a refund.

Meeting Randy in person, hes a pretty cool guy. But trying to deal/get ahold of him at his busuniss (i hate to say) is terrible..... I guess i'll be calling eric @ helix for a GIAC now....

That's what my car was doing when I was on my way to the dragon, and the reason I removed it and sent it back for RMA. I just got it back, so we'll see how things go with it now.

Thats the same problem I have. I could do it at will. I know of three other people in my area that have the same problem. I just wish Unichip would back the product they sell. If it's faulty fine, lets work on a fix, I'm a I just want what I paid for nothing more or less. Don't bill my credit card and do nothing. I don't think Randy would be willing to refund my $ because it's been 8 months. When I last talked to Josh and he told me to go back to Webb for my money, I said do you think hes going to give me a refund after all this time? Joshs response was NO. I'm going to try and save up some cash and this time I think Im giong to try MTH. I don't know of anyone with it but from what I've read it sound like its pretty good. I if anyone has any to report about them I would really like to hear it. I'm a little shy now.

It could be as simple as 1 pin in the wrong position on the harness.

While LDG does have one piggyback ECU solution in place on a couple of cars I'm not sure if he's going live with offering them. If you call up and ask John would probably talk your ear off about what they will and won't do.
