How hard is it to install a 15% pulley yourself?

Do I need any special tools to install a pulley? (other than the pulley remover tool).

Is it super hard? I know MINI Madness sells a pulley that comes with a CD filled with photos/illustrations to walk you through the process.

Will I need an engine lift or anything like that?

Why bother with all of that hard work when you can have someone do it for $250 (includes MM 15% pulley and installation)?
www.luckydoggarage.com

Call and ask about the pulley special and prepare to be educated about MINI...spend some time chatting with John and check out the Mad Dog MINI!!!

$250 is a pretty sweet deal. Even at $400 it's not too bad for piece of mind.

You will need two floor jacks, the pulley tool, a puller, and the regular assortment of ratchets and sockets.
I've seen Randy Webb (and Brian) do them in less than an hour. For a novice it'd probably be closer to four.

If you want the experience and can get the tools (Webb loans them with purchase of the pulley) it seems do-able, if a bit complex (i.e. knowing what to take off/jiggle around for clearance.)
I'll eventually do mine myself, but if you're nervous, $250 (aka 130-150 after pulley) is cheap insurance.

According to Your question, I would guess that it'll be cheaper for You to get done by a professional who has done it already for other customers.
(Even professionals can do it wrong).

... for you impression have a look here: http://www.promini.com/technical/ins...structions.pdf

Go to Lucky Dog. Dude.
They will even drop you off and pick you up at the library while the work
is being done. Good Place to kill time.

Thanks for the links/input. After reading the Webb how-to, I think I'll let a professional do it. Thanks again. I love NAM!

ditto !

just take it to some one that already has the right tools and lift facility. Spend the time driving the car not playing around with the pulley install.
