Megan Stuff

I was interested in getting some Megan products but was wondering if anyone had any first hand input about them. Their products are super cheap and I am wondering if that is any way tied in with quality especially considering their warranty is not very good compared with other manufacturers (been doing some homework).

I have done searches on the products I am interested in but not much has come up. Any sound clips, pics or hard dyno numbers would be appreciated.

Again any info on :
Megan header
Megan Exhaust
Megan Coilovers

would be greatly appreciated.

Even though this is better suited in Suspension, the coilovers are great! Tech, Scooby and i installed them over the weekend, and they are incredible. The build quality is great, but there were a couple fitment issues that i blame mostly on poor instrucions (i.e. there were none).

For the money, you cant go wrong

The quality of the coilovers seems excellent. Only time will tell how they last. Shipping needs to be improved since most of the mounting tabs were bent on both sets I've seen and had to be straightened. Front camber is not adjustable from the top unless you expand the large hole in the top of the towers. Rear stiffness adjustments need a hole drilled accurately above the top of the coilover into the passenger compartment, accessible behind the access doors. The supplied allen key adjustment tool is not long enough to reach the adjustment, but a longer t-handled wrench can be cut and the short one can be punched out of the **** and the longer one tapped in. Lack of real instructions or templates lengthens the install time. Once completed, the results are excellent.

OK so coilovers seem to have a thumbs up for now. Except of course for the lack of instructions and the rather "custom" install required.

A little of topic but this has been my biggest thing with the coilover group buy. I talked to Megan and emailed Pilo (how a shop conducts business with no phone???) and they both assured me these were track tested coilovers. First of all no one went into detail with the testing and if infact they were tested people would have known the tricks of the install. Just my 2 cents anyways.

So back on topic...I am going to order the coilovers by the end of the week for sure. Now the exhaust. I wanted to go with the Magnaflow but for same price (actually even less) I can get the Megan header and exhaust.

I have the megan coilovers and the one piece race header. The header makes any exhaust alot louder, especially without a cat. Mine is connected to my borla sport exhaust and I think it sounds amazing! So far no problems with either, except for the rear coilovers for not coming with a better way to adjust the rear damper.:impatient I'm kind of new to this but I'll try to post a sound clip.

As far as I can tell, you just have to loosen the three top mounting nuts and raise the car to get to the allen bolts. I plan on increasing the diameter of the center hole. I will have an M7 strut bar which should strengthen the towers. The top of the tower will be sandwitched between the camber plate and the strut bar so I don't believe there should be a problem with strength.

I just ordered a set of strut bars from Mini Mania (love the plain polish look) will these work with the coilovers?

I don't think that any bar will be a problem. I like the m7 because of the nice thick plate that attaches to the tower. After seeing Brad's mushroomed tower, I think a little extra strength is a good idea.

Already mushroomed before we started. We only noticed after we adjusted the height and found a 12mm difference.

Yeah, I need the sound clip. I know a guy who is having the Megan header with his custom made exhaust and the sound is boomy, bloody loud. And so i need to know if it's due to the header or the catback.

I heard they are re designing the exhaust so they are no longer in production...however some vendors may still have some on the shelf ( don't know for sure). I went ahead and got the header but have not installed it yet. Overall it seems to be a nice piece.

Wagnbat, can you please elaborate on your comment above?

Thanks and much appreciated as I was tinkering with the idea of getting this set.

I was referring to the Megan coilovers...

They are a bit rough, and with my 18's I'm starting to get a bit of mushrooming... Fricken DC potholes... My biggest concern is that they don't really have enough 'travel' in the spring to absorb real shock/potholes. I suppose that's why they're 'race' coilovers and not 'street'.

How thick are your camber plates...?? I went with KW Variant 2's with a set of Helix camber plates. I think for the buck those camber plates do more for "mushrooming" than any other fix...and they weren't even designed for that.

I'm running the same. 215/35/18 pretty low and lots of bumps plus a slighty psychotic right foot! I have no problems. With your Megan plates I would maybe grab the SRP for M7. That sandwich action would fix the problem and then some!

Yeah sorry dude I've had the Tein Coilvers and the Megans in my head for a while.

Well I think you're getting a rough ride because of the 18's. I'm running 15" holies so I should be getting a WAY softer ride.

ANy other issues with installation and/or fitment?

Install and fitment are fine. Camber plates are built into the top of the coilover.

My 18" non-runflats are just as hard on the car as the OEM 17" runflats imho. I'm sure a 15" rim would make the ride all cushy tho.

I just installed the Megan Racing Header, it is freaking loud when you get on it with the Milltek. I bought a Random Technology cat that I am having welded in place of the race pipe this weekend, hopefully it will be a little quieter.
