A view from outside the "Tuls Friends Network"

Many of you are very passionate in defending Tuls, because you know him, and are even friends with him. I do not wish to offend in any way when I say this, but you are perhaps forgetting that there are many of us here on NAM that do not know Tuls. There are many NAMers that are outside what I refer to as the "Tuls Friends Network". We may not be aware of his accomplishments, contributions to NAM and the MINI community in general. Yes, we’ve seen his name strewn about when looking at various topics, but we don’t know him. That doesn’t mean that we don’t respect him, or his accomplishments and contributions, it just means we’re simply not aware of them.

Now, when I read his post that he achieved 593 HP, the very next thing I looked for was some pictures, a video, and yes, even perhaps a dyno chart. Does this make me a bad person? I don’t think so. It makes me a person who just happens to like knowing how things work.

Before you pull out your flamethrowers again, please consider my (and other people who don’t know Tuls) point of view. As we all know, the most potent engine that MINI makes, (in the new Works GP car), makes 218 HP. That’s the best that MINI can do, and still keep it a financially viable production car. So, when someone tells me that they’ve almost hit 600 HP with a miniscule 1.6 liter engine, that is ABSOLUTELY MIND BLOWING! Folks, that is damn near Ferrari Enzo power, from a 1.6 liter engine. Read that last sentence again, let it sink in for a few moments!

I don’t know about you, but I am extremely curious to see HOW that was achieved! Can’t you understand that the rest of us are really, really curious to know just how that is possible?

I personally do not wish to discredit or doubt the numbers that Tuls posted. I DO, however, want to know how it was done, out of sheer curiosity, as a MINI fanatic. This is so huge, that doesn’t it bear some kind of documentation? Shouldn’t it go down in the record books of MINI history?

So yes, I agree when some posters ask, “where’s the proof?”.

You all take Tuls’ word for it, which speaks volumes about your and even his character. You trust him, and that is really good, (seriously). But I cannot stress this enough, the rest of us across this planet don’t know him. To us, this is (perhaps) a wild claim from some guy out in cyberspace named Tuls, for arguments' sake. Since we don’t know him, why is it so rude and unfathomable for us to ask for any documentation? I don’t see how you can get so angry at the rest of us for wanting some shred of proof!

Admittedly, the manner in which some of the posters asked for this proof was not phrased in a positive, inquisitive manner. Some downright attacked Tuls’ claim rather maliciously, and hurt all of your feelings, and hence, the flame war erupted.

I too, am saddened by the news that the seemingly constant flaming that Tuls received, was what drove him away from NAM forever. From the way you guys talk about him, it sounds like it is a great loss for us NAMers.

But I’m asking the question in the nicest possible way that I can, how can you fault those of us not in the “Tuls friend network” for asking to see some proof for this incredible claim?

How does a thread about getting sme truly impressive and ground breaking numbers from a mini,

turn into a homofied soap opera.

"U may trust him, but i barely know him" ;"he would't lie" ; " he only Cheated on me once when he was in prison" Get a life people

Good luck Tuls.

How does it turn into a soap opera? Because people post some harsh comments, and hurt other people's feelings. They get emotion and passion involved with a MINI thread...

That's how. Telling us to get a life isn't helping. But in a way I agree with you. I just want to know how those truly impressive and groundbreaking numbers were achieved. Why the mystery here? Enquiring minds want to know!

not true http://www.johncooper.co.uk/JohnCoop...e+Tuning+Kits/
225HP upgrade kit.

and so it continues, the never-ending thread

how can you fault those of us not in the “Tuls friend network” for asking to see some proof for this incredible claim?

I never met the guy but from reading what he has written on performance thread I can clearly see he knows a hella lot more than me and see no reason whatsover to demand "proof".

20 years ago, BMW, Honda and Porsche ran peak 1500 HP 1.5 L Turbos in F1. 20 years ago is a LONG time. So Tuls can't touch 600 HP from 1.6L today? Why would you find that incredible with todays technology?

Climbing Mt. Everest doesn't mean you can do it everday, day in, day out. I trust the guy spoke the truth and don't need to be in his "circle of friends" to believe it.

seeing as how this thread really isn't going anywhere productive, I'm going to lock this.

Tuls: you've been a valued member of this community and I hope you'll reconsider and post here again in the future. If not, I'll catch up with you elsewhere. Good luck in your endeavors where ever they take you.

Dave
