I set the Alta as low as it could go, just before it scrapes the exhaust heat shield. That's how this on in the picture is set up. The extension brings the shifter up close to the wheel.

Video clip on the track, shows how well it shifts.

Up for sure. And yes, I have it toward the wheel, but that is done just by twisting the Alta shifter in that direction as it has a bend in it and can swivel 360 degrees. So you can really place that shift **** wherever you like.
I have the Rogue SSK as well.. I think it's loose though, how do I check it? And I've still definitely done the dreaded 3rd to 2nd.. only I catch my mistake soon enough that the RPMs don't fly past high 7k... still scary, it's happened to me twice. But yeah, my short shifter seems very rough and as if it was loose.
Here’s a link to another short shifter discussion with a picture of my custom extension. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...t=60745&page=2
Shifting action requires only placing the shifter in the correct position instead of a forceful shove like the stock shifter. Earlier models have sloppier shifters than later versions so there was a lot of room for improvement with mine. The short shifter still hasn’t eliminated missed shifts for me only reduced the occurrence and my trouble spot has always been 5th to 6th.

IYHO of course.
I roll with the Webb.

I'm sticking with stock on my '05.

You didn't hear this from me but...a very interesting new shifter design will be introduced in the near future...This is not just another shaft replacement kit...looks to be a whole new shifter assembly with exposed mechanisms and **** closer to the steering wheel...

i have a pilo short shift kit... 40$ reduction.... and i love it... although i gotta say its hard to get into gear sometimes.... and have misshifted a few times (say wanted 5th in acceleration, but got stuck in 3rd)

The Alta requires you to buy an adapter.
The Rogue one does (because it doesn't replace the shaft).
Another consideration is if decide on the B&M or Proimini kit is the exhaust system. It only clears the OE cooper, cooper s and from what I've seen on the net the Borla street exhaust. Many aftermarket including our factory JCW exhaust has a resonator directly under the shifter which will touch the deeper shifter box provided. To keep our short shifter I had a muffler shop cut out the large diam. resonator and put in a small cross-section unit. It is louder but sounds good. Now it sounds like a deeper version of the Leitriz exhaust systems on the early 80's VW Gti's if you know what that sounds like but louder
Does anybody have an opinion on the Mini-Madness short shifter? I won one at the dragon that I haven't done anything with yet. I had never planned to do this mod and I'm not mechanically inclined so I'm not going to try this myself. Is it worth paying someone to install it for me? From reading the instructions it seems fairly complicated, even though the whole thing is only a short (3-4") shaft and a few set screws.

But it works for me...25% reduction keep me from the dreaded 3rd to 2nd 10,000rpm mistake
