HELP !!! Header and Cat Questions

I bought a new aftermarket header and need to know where to buy a bolt on cat. for a decent price . Also, will a header with a high flow cat, with o2 sensors in place , set off the SES light ??? I want to leave the stock header complete incase I do not like this mod. That is why I not using the stock cat with the new header.

did you buy the megan header? i am planning on doing that, as for cat i was looking at this one or this one i still need to look around more though. but you buy a cat like one of those and you take is to an exhaust shop and you can have them use the flanges on the test pipe or they can probably put some other ones on. you need the post cat O2 sensor in place and you shouldn't throw a SES code, just tell the exhaust shop that you need a O2 sensor tap behind the cat. then your ready to go.

let me know how this goes for you.
good luck

Check the OBX thread..

there are a bunch of links to cat suppliers. FWIW, you can get Magnaflow headers for much less, I got mine for under $60....

ses light

I hav been talking to eric at Minimania and they have come up with a solution to that ses light due to higher flow from high flow cats. They will be selling an adapter that will be available soon. Call Eric at Minimania for details.

I bought one through Performance Curve. They have an eBay store. I bought a high flow Stainless Metallic cat for $65. I will be adding to my Minimania header.

Many people are driven by the more or bigger theory but the stock cat does the job.

hey Arly, this looks great!! good job. how much did it cost you all together? can i have a breakdown of costs if you don't mind. that's the way Mania/Comptech should've made this header from the beginning.

Disco,
-$60 for Stainless Metal Brick OBD2 Cat and Stainless o2 bung
-$180 for welding labor.
-$450 for the original Mania header with magnaflow cat

Total: $690

I bought the header used 3 years ago and I did not want to install it until I was sure that the Cat was a OBD2 cat and I wanted to do some research on why the ses light was being tripped. Eric at Minimania has a solution as mentioned in this thread by me that will coming in the mail this week.

But as you can see I now have the option of trying out new cats or replacing this one after it goes if it goes. I am thinking of Random Technologies for high flow cats in the future to replace this cat. I want to make sure the Random's cats are obd2 compliant. I was told that they were not. There is more to a obd2 cat than just the second o2 sensor. The material of the earth metals in the cat are important too for EPA emissions.

Looks great! You will have to share your driving impressions once on the car.

And not a bad price. For those following the thread, you can add a header recycling your stock CAT for under 500 bucks.

The header is finally on! WOW what a sound difference. I have a NRP/Ultrik Cat Back (straight path) and now the Mania header with Metal, High Flow Stainless CAT and the volume is 2X and a lot more throat to the tone. I can tell from just reving it that it has more flow. The car is in storage, but I can't wait to take her out and maybe dyno the car and see the fruit of all the mods that I have done so far. I had to bent the heat shield that sit on top of the header to make it fit. Otherwise an easy install.

I will post pictures as soon as I can.
