Stock Intake MOD

Has anybody done this? (I saw this on the BFP CAI thread)

Take the stock "S" intake and put in a cone cotton or foam filter then remove the plastic wall / punch through so that air flows from the cowl into the intake.

A simple, quick way to slightly boost intake pressure and lower temp?

I believe that is pretty much a HAI but with the stock intake tube.

Right folks?

There are lots of variations on the theme...

long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away... People started by popping more holes into the airbox..... And then there were tuner shops for the mini, and everyone bought thier own!

I think Old Rick just did this with a JCW, because the friggin replacement filters are so damned expensive....

Search around, and read some of the threads from 02-03 or so... Pretty interesting the path of discovery. And just like fasion trends, how they repeat....

Right folks?
except i'll still have the enclosed box to keep out the hot air.. the only hole will be into the cowl where colder air will be coming in

correct?

Sounds like a good way to get a CAI for the cost of an HAI. Your mod would still be a CAI. Randy Webb posted a how to for ,aking the cowl free flowing, so now the trick would be fitting a cone filter.

I think thats why there is discussion of opening up the back and taking away that restriction.

I did that on my first 's' and it helps a little bit..then I bought a CAI for it...that helped too....but on this one I just went out and bought the K&N filter that fits right on the tb...$40..made such more of a difference

hhmmm... an interesting challenge

it just seems like you could mod the stock box instead of having to build a $300 carbon fiber thing... Just strip it out to an empty shell ?

It seems very doable, I'll have to dig by stock parts up tomorrow and take a look to see what might need to be done.
