Drivetrain I have code P1613
#26
the abs module is located under the hood passenger side with all the the brake lines going to it. I had the same problem and there was a short in the smaller of the two hARNESSes, not an easy repair but can be done. One of the wires that was damaged was the wheel speed sensor wire plus fog lights, right driving lights and 3 grounds. If that is the problem I'll be happy to tell you how to repair it,good luck.

Andrea,
What did you find out about your car. Mine started doing the same thing this morning (Flat tire light, Traction control light, Engine maint. light, and the tach only works about 50% of the time). Also my check engine light will sporadically cut off and my engine coolant light will come on but only for a split second before the engine light comes back on. I did also have p1607 code and a very dead battery. Any help would be greatly appreceated.

Hey Guys, Just an FYI. My lights turned out to be due to a short in the wires going to the steering angle sensor. I didn't have the time to fish it out myself and sent it to the dealership to diagnose and fix $1,200.00 later I am picking up my car tomorrow. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up to at least start looking there before taking it to the dealership...

I had this issue pop up after a few bouts with my dash controls going haywire earlier this summer. The tach part of the dash would intermittently work, but definitely be more wonky after/during hot weather. The speedo was mostly ok but went bonkers once or twice.
Pulled my codes and have P2096 P1607 P1613. So maybe that wheel sensor.... but maybe also oxygen? Sounds like someone had theirs fixed under warranty, but I'm far from those years.

Bringing up a bit old thread in my search for dash lights and controls going haywire as well. Hopefully you got your issue fixed and if so, do you know the cause? I'm leaning towards a shorted wire or harness the more posts that I read of folks having this issue. Here's my thread:

P1613 & P1607 error code model without SAS
The check engine light goes on and off from time to time. I see error code on my scanner as follow:
P1613- Serial Communication with ASC
P1607- CAN status ABS/ASC/DSC
in reading this thread, it looks like the Steering Angle Sensor appears to be the issue on the issues reported on this post, for the most part. However, I do not see any SAS on my car. Any idea where to look or what could be the issue. I’m including a picture to show there is nos sensor under the steering wheel.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
PS. I have a 2006 Mini Cooper Hatchback base model.
