The spelling is "Xenon", just like the element on the periodic table.

What does this "stage 2" offer, how does it differ from OEM Xenon's?

Cheers,
Ryan

It's interesting that you should bring this subject up. I had searched the forums to see if anyone had upgraded their high beam bulbs (H7) which happen to be 55w halogens. Not only don't they produce adequate lighting but they are about 1700K less then the Xenon low beams. I replaced mine about a month ago with 100w 5100k HID's (Xenon & Krypton gas) and notice about a 30% improvement in long range visibility plus the light is almost the same color as the xenon low beams. The cost $25.00. I have had no problems with the electronics, wiring, etc., well worth the money.

my bad about the spelling, but the stage II is surpose to be brighter (6000K) and carries a darker blue hue. there pretty pricy though; check it out at HID4LESS.com.

HID4less? Less then what? buying a whole new lighting housing. $700 for fancy H7 high voltage bulbs. It's not worth it. The low beam Xenon's on the Mini are more then adequate. It's the high beams that are lacking and for $25.00 you get a 30% improvement. I have very poor night vision and live in a rural area. I am always looking to improve night visibility. I was even thinking of putting some small aircraft landing lights in the lower grill but they are illegal and draw a lot of amps.
Good luck but I would spend that money on some performance mods.

sorry boss, but $25 doesn't buy you High-intensity-discharge lighting. You got those fabulous "xenon-filled" Halogen's.

High-Intensity-Discharge lights use very high voltage (about 50kV) to create an arc within an inert gas environment (xenon gas), resulting in extremely high lumonous intensity (in candlepower, C), and high color temperature (in Kelvins, K).

Please do not confuse with popular advertising claiming Halogen (aka glowing wire) lights filled with "xenon" (or other inert gas). This is an entirely different functional principle!

I wouldn't want to retrofit HID's in my high-beam socket's, they do not have auto-leveling. I have no desire to blind other drivers The cost per usage doesn't make much sense to me either (I use my high beams about 10 seconds a month, lol)

As for replacing the bulb in my low-beams for a higher temperature HID, also kinda pointless. Increasing the color temperature brings the peak luminosity out of the most sensitive frequencies for human eyes.

Cheers,
Ryan
