This is just as upsetting. He is so knowledgable about the MINI. I wonder if the lengthy delay by TOO in putting together his engine made him think in another direction. I can't see a Saab as replacement for the MINI. I'd see an EvO or STI as one though. Maybe his Saab is being turned into a stealth STI?
This is just ridiculous. Do you know that TOO was fighting cancer while jlm was "waiting" for his engine to be done??? CANCER! And, in spite of treatments, he still got the engine done, albeit yes a little late!

I told jlm this, that I had learned this, and he was unimpressed; he knew, apparently. Yet, with all of his 'curious' complaining in cyberspace, he NEVER ONCE even suggested that there might be a reason for the delay.

That's low, if you ask me; hell, it's slander in some circles. I'll admit it, I was quite perturbed and yet I never said anything. Now, I'm kinda disappointed in myself that I didn't. What jlm has done by suggesting negligence was just not right. People have REAL THINGS to deal with in life, and they have every right to see to themselves when they need to. I'm sure everyone knows someone who's had to fight cancer.

Well, now, everyone knows a little more about the truth.

It's not like JLM was the only one that Endyn was slow with...

Seems that is not an unusual occorance. But it is true that things happen, and delays occure. I know this all too well with my mustang. Whatever the reason, the delay sucks for the customer.

for the record, Too completed over fifty engines, built a new dyno room, developed a carbon fiber Honda intake manifold, ported many, many heads, bought a new 5-axis CNC mill and digitized Honda and Mini head porting all during the two years my engine was in his shop. my engine was delayed by piston and rod manufacture and fitting into his very complex schedule. In my opinion, Too is a master at what he does.

This forum if rife with the absolute bunk and arrogance of posters like Ingsoc who promote their half-baked rumours as if they knew what they were talking about. calibrate your bs meters.

Thanks John.

That would be why flingstuff is on my ignore list. Excellent BS filter BTW.

Hope you've been well

A point of clarification; I visited T.O.O. twice during the lower-end rebuild period and he told me he was in a state of remission on both occasions. This does not mean that the disease was not a factor in performing the activities of daily living only that treatments were not a major hindrance at that time. I’m not going to share all of the personal details but his avocation/vocation sacrifices some of his health regardless.

From my perspective I never considered jlm’s comments to be anything other than statements of fact without the added disparaging connotations a certain someone else perceived.

The first thing I read this morning to see if Andy had posted up at least a Hi guys . And here is this BS posting about you and the work Too did for you. In my opinion this was all developmental break through work on MINI internals that we can all take advantage of.
What I don't understand is his reason for the personal attack on you or did you some how hurt his feelings or does this little character have an agenda?

< Try a bit of PB Blaster on that, then once you get it freed up, paint on some Anti-Seize and consider the source >
Turning on ignore BS poster now due to lack of any practical input ever.

Have to mention the obligatory where’s Andy? We do miss your input.

By Ingsoc (underlining added by me for emphasis)

...it's slander in some circles...

...What jlm has done by suggesting negligence was just not right...

Please explain the basis for the above statements, especially the "slander" and "suggesting negligence" parts. Some might view the emotion-laden post from which the above quotes were drawn as overstepping the boundry of civility and libelous rancor. Be well...

"delay by TOO in putting together..." Sorry about that. I did not intend any criticism. I enjoyed the write up of the engine build and can appreciate delays dealing with vendors. The work by TOO is certainly cutting edge. I was envious of the head and engine work JLM was having done. I was just thinking maybe JLM 's mini interest might have diminished a little because delay was encountered. That's all I meant, honestly. I do wish TOO would reopen his forum as that was interesting hearing his tech talk responding to inquiries. But we all have the same amount of time and must pick and choose how we spend it.

I enjoy my MCS but when I get fun rides at autocrosses in prepared EVO's, STI's WRX's and Vettes my eyes bug out. But I like to learn tech stuff about cars and esp. the MINI since I still have one.

I don't think this thread should bog down in rancor, criticism or insult. That reduces the contributors of tech info.

Ha! This just goes to show that we can screw up a thread all by ourselves. Andy got a lot of the blame when threads went south in the past, but we can't blame him for this one can we!
