Saw a video on top gear about the BBR MINI. I'm sure many of you have already seen this, but just in case, check this out:

This video was awesome; I'd never seen it, so thanks for sharing. I watched it twice, actually.

Slight tangent: I've asked BBR about their Turbo 300, and they downright refuse to disclose any details whatsoever. The only thing they said was for me to look in the Aug. '05 EVO magazine, and that "all details will be revealed when you place your order! At about 18k UK pounds for parts alone, that's a mighty enormous leap of faith.

rye,
Hows your Turbo only setup? Still running on 6psig? I am very interested in your ventures! It looks like a pretty clean build.

That's cos it's tripe

Your custom project is practically the same and costs a minute fraction of what BBR charge. They can't even change out the pistons and rods if they are only running 307cBHP...

Ripoff springs to mind

Henry

The £18,000 includes labour (according to BBR website). Also that includes an LSD, BBK, suspension mods and tyres, as well as their own developed software for the system.

I don't want to start anything, but just to let people know Henry and BBR have some "issues" with each other, so I suggest people read some reviews that journalists have made about driving this car before making up their minds.

P.S. I don't work for BBR, but I have found them very helpful and knowledgeable in the past. What details were you after Ryephile?

--->Soul Coughing: No, I'm slowly upping the boost. I'm at 13psig now, and will keep going until I run out of octane.

--->Henry: BBR says they need 30psig to get 300cHP, which means their turbo is tiny, or their BSing. A tiny turbo also makes sense of their claim that the car spools too fast for its own good, a la stock SRT-4.

--->Stu(pid): Henry's point of charging an arm and a leg for stock pistons and only 300cHP is valid; their past is their business. BBR has treated my questions for crap, so I'm less than impressed with their attempt at salesmanship too. I'd like to know the following:

*What turbo?
*what exhaust manifold style?
*injector size?
*actual boost level?
*octane required? [R+M/2 please]
*why do they keep the stock clutch? [besides being lazy]
*what's up with the TINY intercooler?
*why do they refuse to post a dyno graph?

Thanks,
Ryan

Hi Ryan
I can email you a copy of the EVO article if you like (about 1Mb in size). There is a "cartoonised" dyno plot (power + torque) in the article. Also it states that the clutch is not replaced because they have never had a problem with it(?) and that it uses 2 bar of boost. The intercooler on the top of the engine is the air intake and the intercooler is now front mounted above the radiator.
I'll see if BBR will give me any details. By exhaust manifold style, do you mean 4-2-1, 4-1 etc?

--->Stu(pid); you should be able to email me from the link in my profile. I'm still baffled why they chose not to improve the clutch; there's a definite limit on the stock clutch, and it just can't handle big torque. I do see where the intercooler is, it's about the same size as the Cooper CVT's tranny cooler! (read: TINY). I can't imagine that would do any good on a chassis dyno, or even such extended high load applications like the track or the Dragon. As for the manifold style; low internal volume short primary tubular [like mine], long primary merged tubular [like SPI], cast log [like Helix], or something crazy?

Thanks,
Ryan

Hi Ryan
I can't figure out how to attach images to the email via your profile. I have added the pages to my gallery temporarily (don't want to get into trouble about having these available!).
I've just read your turbo project on your website. I think any BBR information is a bit late now - you appear to have everything already!!
I'll contact BBR and see what they say.

I really don't mean to steal his well-deserved thunder, but here's a ton of info on Ryephile's work: http://michiganmini.com/modules.php?...ewtopic&t=1386
. I really really appreciate his willingness to share in the process. So, yeah, Ryan, don't kill me cause I wanna spread the word . Good stuff- I'm surprised you kept quiet for so long.
